I got a fully working El Capitan hackintosh on my rig. the last time I used a mac was in school and it was a Macintosh 512Ke. What are the must have on OS X? What browser should I use?
there are no must haves for osx because there is nothing to have
chrome or firefox or whatever the fuck else, it really doesnt matter
hahahaha
>>51819839
>What are the must have on OS X?
What are your needs?
Convince me not to use Chrome as my main browser. Hint: Unproven "botnet" claims do not count
>>51819805
botnet
>>51819805
Yes they do.
>>51819805
>Unproven
That shit literally phones home all of the time.
It's proven at this point.
Post useful info graphics
>>51819733
Is this a joke?
I'm thinking of installing some LEDs in my case, could anyone help me decide on the color?
>>51819757
i would go for purple, it's a good balance
Would you rather use a used business laptop (ThinkPad X220/EliteBook 2560p) or a tablet(Surface Pro 2/3) as your primary computer for university?
I bought a used Vaio Pro for that purpose, and I'm satisfied with it.
At the time, I wanted a X220 since it's cheap, seems sturdy and the specs are still pretty cool nowadays.
>>51819731
I would use whatever computer was enough to write Word documents, because if you are serious about school, you should write by hand in class and seminars.
Paper is best technology.
when will nfc become the standard for regular shopping/commerce?
Hopefully never
>>51819493
At this point, never.
>>51819587
i agree
Why don't you write free software?
Is it because you're dumb?
I'm not on welfare so I actually have to make a living.
>>51819447
>Implying that people would actually buy your shitty proprietary software
>Implying that you can't sell free software
i think it's primarily because people are too lazy/cbf. If people actually cared and wanted to, they could do it. Not having the intelligence to perform the task would account for a very low percentage of individuals.
Linux extreme casual here. I learned about "Shebang" some time ago. Made some scripts for simple things on my computer. Most are written in python (2.7 and now 3).
What's in your bin? What is your language of choice?
My personal bin scripts directory?
3 terminal colour test scripts, ffmpeg record and convert bash script and a screenshot cleanup python script I wrote to avoid cluttering up my WM binds
I had a look on Github a while ago and tried a few scripts, but I don't think I've ever used any of these.ls ~/bin/
ack emojify h hr spark z.sh
At work I have some useful scripts for
- scheduling downtime in Nagios
- search for a string in filename and open in vim
- run a syntax check on configuration files
I also have a folder of one-off scripts that I use to do text manipulation en masse.
All I have is a script to open QEMU with all of the correct command line arguments.
Is there a good quality small compact monitor for something like a raspberry pi?
All the ones on amazon seem to have kinda pretty shitty ratings
My dad wants a raspberry pi and ive got all this stuff ready to check out with but i cant figure out what to actually display it on
Also is this case and these tiny heatsink fans possibly a bad idea somehow, should i go with a case with a fan built in it?
>>51819397
Here's the fan
It's tiny, looks like it fits flush over the cpu, and it has decent ratings, 4.5/5 by like a dozen people I think
Literally every 7 inch monitor either shows up DOA on like 1 in 5 people's doorsteps or costs like $350 and is only reviewed by one person
The fuck
I don't want one of these loose screens either, I need it to atleast stand up but I'm finding nothing
Fuck this is about all I can find but its a little big and expensive
http://www.amazon.com/BacchaBox®-10-1-Monitor-Composite-Inputs/dp/B00V7GKSZI/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449917601&sr=1-1&keywords=9+inch+monitor
>>51819532
once you start looking at compact monitors, it's assumed you want a display meant for mounting on video cameras, and those ramp up in price very quickly, it's not uncommon to see them range in price from $500-800 or more, so of course displays less than $150 will be rated poorly.

is open source software secure because anyone can scrutinise it?
>>51818975
No. If I release the source code of a shitty software, it won't be "secure".
But a good designed and implemented software is considered (in general) more secure for the simple reason that you expect that more people are going to lurk your code to help you fix holes than actually exploiting them.
>>51818975
Wouldn't knowing how the software actually works make it less secure?
>>51818975
open source software is insecure because no one ever bothers to scrutinize it, except hackers
So, is there any reason one of these PCIe slots would be blue and the other black? The manual doesn't give me shit...
Just stick it in the top one.
>>51818964
I've been using the black one because it gave more space for my GPU, but was wondering if the color difference was meant to signify anything. Want to make sure my dumb ass hasn't missed anything important.. like if one were 16x@something else
Normally one is 16x and the other 1x
What sort of capabilities did it have for end-user consumers by mid-decade or so? I starting to see online banking ads around 1985 when I look through old magazines.
well it wasn't the "internet" till the early 90's
>>51818703
Was it not? It wasn't the WWW, but it was certainly interconnected digital networks.
>>51818667
There was no public internet in the 1980s, the ads you're seeing are for dial-in services, for which there were a lot to choose from.
>>51818718
There was no networking involved client-side.
why do you play video games?
for what purpose?
you know it ruins your mind like tv right?
why don't you just write a program, or read a book? draw a picture, browse the internet, talk to a fucking girl for once
fuck, i don't care
but you have a huge processor right in front of you and instead of using it to learn you're using it to control some gay anime protagonist and pretend your life doesn't suck
Met girl in online game. OP is retarded asf
>if it doesn't run on my hobbyist os you're inferior for enjoying it
>>51818691
don't get me wrong, I like windows. however, I use it for word processing and image editing. not playing mindless video games.
(but i do love bsd linux and minix)
