So I signed up for a bootcamp and start my coursework next week. It's supposed to be super labor intensive and help you land a job as a junior developer. I understand you guys might be skeptical, but my question isn't about the bootcamp specifically.
My question is what makes a good programmer / developer / coder? What are things I should know so that, whenever I get hired at your place of work, you don't end up endlessly frustrated at me. What are practices of a good coder? What makes bad code bad?
Just for the record, the bootcamp teaches a lot of different languages but focuses on java.

Good at symbolic thinking, good at logic. You need excellent communication skills and lots of tenacity. Being able to think procedurally and do things methodically instead of haphazardly is also essential.
Programs are just giant flow charts with arithmetic embedded in them.

Well I taught propositional / symbolic logic at university for five years, so I'm pretty comfortable with that. I like to think my communication skills are pretty good, too.
I guess I just have no idea how to identify bad coding.
So far (from what I can tell), having useful comments is good while having no comments is bad. Also, you want to create things so that they consume as few resources as possible.
I read in java you shouldn't declare certain kinds of variables by making them begin with capital letters.

Create you own terminal based text editor that is compatible with vim addons.
Implement your own database, with all your login details stored in a single encrypted spreadsheet. Link them properly and see your own relational diagram.
Make your own VPS.
Learn python and automate things on your house. Like sync your home sound-system with the song you've been playing in your mobile phone or car outside. Wake up your PC with when your phone connects the the home WiFi

Do you have difficualties holding attention span for that long? There is literraly nothing wrong ~1h. It becomes more diffult to listen to them as they approach 2h mark simply because you need to be able to allocate this much time unless you like taking breaks.

OP, it seems to me like you could use better mics or a compressor because you and your buddy peak quite often when you get more excited and it makes it beyond painful to listen. Audio quality is acceptable if you're just giving it a go and don't feel like investing anything in it otherwise upgrade asap.

Why are PC speakers either trash or $500 professional studio monitors? Is there no middle ground?
The "middle ground" depends on your budget and expectations.
There's an "autistic true audio instead of toy computer speakers" in almost every price range, especially if you don't mind buying used, but if you don't have the time or interest you can get away with basic computer speakers and be satisfied unless you're an audiofag.
