So how the fuck did the monkeys breathe underwater?
I have played this game for twenty years, but it never bothered me until my wife pointed it out today.
Now I can't sleep good

Hello fellow 4channers
I was wondering if any of you can help me remember the name of a rather old game, that could possibly belong to the SNES list. Here are the tips (bare with my format, please):
* The game scenario was something like an arena in open outter space.
* There were two fighting sides, each with their own type of spaceships.
* Each side had 12 battle space ships, if I remember correctly.
* The only game mode, I believe, was a 1v1 match that pitted spaceship vs spaceship until one of the fighting sides had last all his spaceships.
* Among the "good guys", there were three spaceships that I remember:
- Siren, a rather yellow and cylindrical spaceship with the ability to steal health from the enemy and give it to herself;
- A round spaceship, small and agile, that aimed the shots by itself, but was low on health, range and damage;
- The good guys' capital ship was green (and, of course, huge).
* The bad guys had a violet spaceship as their capital ship. It drawed health from itself in order to fire.
* Each ship had two status bars: one would show remaining hp, and the other would show remaining energy that could be used to move, shoot, and use a special ability.
* It was incredibly fun. :D

Does this rings a bell to someone? I've tried google for a long time without success.

Star Control. You remember some things right(Syreen ship, Arilou ship, Ur-Quan ship), but there were more game modes than just the melee(though that IS the most popular mode to play). The first one's on the Genesis(as well as PC and a few other systems), not the SNES. Also, the Ur-Quan(big green ship) are the bad guys, not the good guys(though you learn more about them if you play the sequel and find...they're not THAT bad, comparatively).

don't use zsnes, it's shit. there have been better emulators for over a decade

use snes9x or higan
>>
>>3368405
As >>3368898 said that's Star Control for the Genesis. It was a really, really shitty port of the game - it ran at something like 15 frames - and at this point you're better off pirating the PC game or downloading Star Control 2 for free at http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Anybody ever play this? The most expensive super famicom game, It's half Turrican, half Thunderforce, with some gorgeous graphics.

It has a reputation for being very difficult, but it's pretty fair.

Fuck no. A good part, not all, is memorisation in the worst kind of way. But I still liked it, just wished it had good music.

>A good part, not all, is memorisation in the worst kind of way

I'd argue only one of the shooter levels requires a lot of memorization, the one with the hordes of missiles and waves of enemies.

You can bust your way through most of the game with the spread shot or the bouncy shot.

You can mostly beat the bosses just by abusing the smart bombs, especially the green bomb or the blue super laser. Not only that but smart bombs recharge over time.

The only surviving "arcades" around me are in the lobby of movie theaters and the one "bar-cade" downtown. The movie theater corner-cades only have new games from Raw Thrills--so hard pass. But both of the Cinemarks do have the newer Stern pinball tables (transformers and Family guy, I believe) that are decent.

The barcade has older games--Joust, MS. Pac-man cocktail, MK 4, Terminator 2 light gun and a mid 90s midway pinball table-- along with a MAME cabinet or two. Sadly, it's been infected with EDM kiddos sucking down expensive shots, sorting adderall and listening to the shittest music possible over the game audio. I haven't been in a year now--wonder if my Joust score still reigns.

I just got back from an arcade convention, California Extreme, and had a blast seeing and playing hundreds of games. Only decent arcade for the next year is an hour away though.

Thinly veiled CRT and emulation thread.

I had an old laptop with Windows 7 unoccupied, and I found an old VGA to S-Video converter collecting dust, so I turned it into an emulation machine for my CRT setup to cover the console I don't have and some older PC games on DOSBOX.

As it is, it 'just werks', but poorly. It's locked on 800x600 and a rather low refresh rate. It's playable, but the image is blurry. Kinda misses the point of using the CRT TV at all.

So I decided to research for a proper VGA converter (pic not related). Hopefully, VGA to Component cables. One that would allow me the proper resolution and refresh rate so the emulator looks on TV as nice and crispy as my consoles.

I have a couple of questions on this.

- First of all, what kind of convertor do I need? Which specific specs should I look for?
- Is this setup only possible with CRT TVs that do Progressive image? Mine is capable, but I'm curious anyway.
- Requirements on the computer side. Is this doable on Windows 7 and any integrated Intel graphics card? (If not, I may consider building another PC for this out of spare parts) I mean, proper fullscreen resolution (320x240?) so games look as crispy (and as "faithful" as the original console) as possible on the CRT TV. If I set 320x240 as the fullscreen resolution on each emulator's settings, would that be enough, or should the entire OS be running on that resolution?

Most of all, any experience doing something similar (either VGA or HDMI -to- CRT TV for emulation), and recommendations of an specific converter, would be greatly appreciated.

How does a single RPG occupy your summer? I mean, even assuming you're working a full-time job, you'd think it would only eat up one or two weekends tops.

Anyhow, for the sake of being constructive, I vote Secret of Mana.

Just started playing Super Mario 64. Never had an N64, so I'm having a ton of fun with it now.

Problem is I expected there would be more things to collect and have a sort of inventory.

Anyone know of games with more of a focus on collecting things? And I don't mean only platformers, could be something like Resident Evil with an extended emphasis on inventory.

>>
The Banjo series on N64, Crash Bandicoot on ps and ps2 (not retro though) for example. There's a tonne of platformer games in which you need to collection sht for the real ending or getting the game finished 100%.

So, I recently got myself an N64, and picked up a few games at my thrift store, along with good condition copies of Mario 64 and Diddy Kong Racing for a decent price.

I almost have enough saved up to buy an SNES and some games for that, but I want your guys opinion.

What are some good tips for finding places that sell good condition older games, and some overall advice on what games I should be trying to get. I am fairly new to collecting retro stuff and could use some help.

Thanks.

You want my honest opinion? Stop "collecting" and start playing.

Or else one day you'll wake up with 17 different color N64s and 2000 games most of which are shit, and almost all of which you have never played.

If people spent less time at work saving to buy out all the world's stock of old games, and more time chilling at home actually playing the damn games we'd be a lot better off and happier in general imo.

But hey, it's up to you if you want to be the kid that plays with the toys or the adult that keeps them "mint in box". Who am I to judge.

Good luck finding those for a decent price, but they're staples.

>Castlevania
>Mario RPG
>Mario Kart
>Contra
>Street Fighter II
Haha, that price -tier:
>Super Metroid
>FF III
>Chrono Trigger
>Secret of Mana
>EarthBound
>Harvest Moon
More staples, you can find most under $30, expect to pay for RPGs though. Mario RPG is good and cheap though, under $60 easily.

The levels are pretty similar, so I'm going with the look and mood of the levels:

> Crash 1

The Lost City/Sunset Vista, Slippery Climb, or Lights Out/Fumbling in the Dark

> Crash 2

Ruination

> Crash 3

This game didn't have anything as good as the previous two, so this one is tough, as there's nothing that compares.

I guess the Arab levels were the nicest.

High Time was set in the evening, so it's the most aesthetically pleasing of them.
