I personally like the speed of Windows 8 and later quite a bit. I find Windows 7 to be a dog.

That said, however, I detest Microsoft's mining of user information. What I've done to counter that is to use Windows Server instead of the desktop garbage.

I would recommend Windows Server 2012 R2 or, if you can wait for it, Windows Server 2016 (i.e., Windows 10 server).

Not really, I really enjoyed how streamlined and straight-forward it is to install various tools and libs as well as overall customizability.

I don't know enough of them to be able to generalize.
