I use MPV because I can do
--audio-pitch-correction=no --speed=1.1
and listen to more music per unit time. As a bonus it also compensates for only having moderately sized speakers that struggle with very deep bass. I don't listen to music with singing so there is no drawback.
>>
Server: Music Player Daemon (MPD)
Raw CLI client: Music Player Client (MPC)
NCurses CLI client: Music Player Client Plus Plus (ncmpcpp)
Android client app: (MPDroid)

What do you prefer, MPC-HC, the trusted choice of /g/entlemen, or MPV, the next /g/eneration?

Also, why do you prefer one to the other? Anecdotes encouraged actually.

Bomi just werks.

I use mpv because it doesn't ruin picture quality like madvr or mpdn by default with their performance hacks.
It's much faster for the similar settings too.

And I really prefer mpv unofficial gui like baka-mplayer or bomi than mpdn, mpc-hc or potplayer.

You can use vapoursynth with mpv, this is much better than madvr image enhancement.
Unfortunately it's pretty long to configure on windows, still better than avisynth with deprecated ffdshow.

It seems that in 2011-2012 Valve had some ideas about Linux gaming in living room, in 2013 they started making a fuss about it, but then something seems to have gotten their attention and they kept only little to none people/resources/effort to develop SteamOS and Steam Machines and Steam Controller.
It has been few weeks since whole project was officially released (even after some delays and Valve-time in effect), and it doesn't seem to be taking off properly.
I major bottleneck I see is OEM variety and support. Currently there is pisspoor selection with awful price/performance ratio, half of OEMs already bailed out with some excuse and there is no sign of situation getting any better.

Should community take things in it's own hands, start actively developing and evangelising Steam Machines, or let it all sink to the bottom of history, where it can take place next to 3DO machines?

Is that "some excuse" usually one of the same things that were part of the vicious cycle which http://rbt.asia/g/post/41160055 told about long ago?
>>
Steam machines were always doomed to failure. Valve doesn't know anything about consoles and now they have their own resting in the console graveyard

Hi /g/, I've come to you to ask for guidance.

I've built a PC before, but I just used a guide online (it was for someone else.) My uncle gave me his computer for my birthday, it's a custom build, though not well done.

While shipping the computer the videocard (GPU?) was damaged, and so the screen was wonky. I got UPS to replace it, but they gave me a very different (Much much smaller) part. I want to upgrade my PC to play Fallout 4, but I'm not sure what to buy.

I'm not sure how to check my parts list, though device manager lists an AMD processor, and my new AMD videocard. I read online that I should buy a GPU to improve performance, but someone else told me that a videocard and a GPU are the same thing, so did UPS send me a super shitty GPU instead of replacing the good one? The computer ran games like crap before.

What should I do? How can I tell what parts I need to buy, and is a GPU the same as a videocard? I replaced the part of the computer you plug the HDMI cable into.

What do you guys think about https://morph.is/v0.8/ ?
>>
>>51652960
The site doesn't seem to explain its full featureset clearly at a glance, but it looks like it is trying to be the successor of freenet, except without anonymity (namely, you upload content to the network, rather than nodes requesting content from you). If they solved the capacity limit issue, might be cool.
>>

Actually,

"SECURE

MORPHiS is a custom (enhanced with inventions) Kademlia DHT over a custom (enhanced with optimizations for performance in security) SSH protocol. MORPHiS is written in Python, a free and open language that is memory safe with high performance asynchronous I/O, and is not controlled by US/NSA corporations."

This paragraph makes it sound like the author doesn't know what he's doing.

"
WEB OF TRUST

Through a trust based system of reputation, this feature will enable reputation based searches (deprecating GOOGLE/BING/ETC, DNS, and so on), forums (bye bye disqus, etc!), and eventually deprecating democracy and stone age government (democracy via stone age paper ballots VS real time direct voting)."

This one (and others) make it sound like pure vaporware.

"
What is DMAIL?

THE KILLER FEATURE! My pride and joy invention: Distributed Spam Proof Mail! Uncensorable, inherently spam proof and transparently encrypted and sender authenticated messaging! Secure enough for Edward Snowden! Easy and fool-proof enough for a child! This uses the updateable key feature above plus the prefix key search to enable it. It is a revolutionary invention found only in MORPHiS! The inherent spam resistance uses a transparent proof of work, beyond what hashcash was. It is automatically AES-256-CBC encrypted and automatically RSA-4096 sender authenticated. Use it over TOR and it is inherently anonymous as well! Oh yea, and MORPHiS hosts your Dmail for free! This completely deprecates Email!"

Makes it sound like everyone should stay away from this.
