Is there a way to make the sound being generated by a program come through your PC microphone?
I use Voice Attack in Elite Dangerous.

It allows you to give voice commands and control parts of your ship. (Deploy and Retract landing gear, raise and lower hardpoints, etc.)
It also lets you play sounds when you give these commands, so you can kinda simulate what it would feel like to have a onboard AI controlling your ship.

It'd be up to the program generating the sounds to sort out which audio device the sounds would be going to.
As it stands, 99% of programs will send audio through whatever the default audio device is. Some games work with Turtle Beach/Headset developers to get chat audio to only stream through mono-headsets, but all other game audio through the primary audio devices.
Elite Dangerous, which is what I'm assuming is generating these sounds, would have to specify the PC Headset as the audio...

It's voice attack that generates the sounds. It acts like a media player and brings up a sound file when the correct command is given.
I'm wondering if there is a program or something that will allow the sounds coming from that program to loop back and be put through the program that is picking up my microphone.

Hmmmm, have you tried enabling stereo mixing in the audio mixer options? It should redirect all of your output sound to the microfone input internally, dunno if you can enable it for specifics programs though.

I had to download TEN different bloatware programs and FILL OUT A FUCKING FORM WITH MY PERSONAL INFORMATION just to receive the download link for one of them. All this just to compile a file. I then had to spend TWO HOURS compiling because there were literally hundreds of errors I needed to solve before it would work.
On Windows I would just need to hit download, run the installer and it would just fucking work.

Move to a z170 you can overclock and not waste the money you will spend on a K.
Also move up to a 980 or r9 390. dont gimp yourself with 3.5+.5GB of VRAM if you can avoid it.

Assuming a user installed a malicious .apk file on their non-rooted Android device, would the malicious application be able to affect other apps or the system?

Security Engineer here, like everything, it is only secure as the users utilize it and how policies and security controls are implemented.
That being said, there is also the popularity factor, you could have x device and since it is not that popular among many then it is secure (for now). The more popular a device gets, the more it will become a target for criminals.
I tend to lean on the Android side because you can modify it easier (depending on the company and phone model). However, be aware that nothing is secure.

I have DD-WRT but it crashes when I enable QOS. Somebody suggested that the router doesn't have enough power to handle processing the data.

That wouldn't cause a crash, it would just make it run slow and probably harm the throughput.
It is more likely to be a bug with the router hardware or needs to be recompiled or something.
Anyway, third party firmwares are awesome. I compiled and installed openwrt on this motherfucker.

Do any of you own a microUSB cable that you've reliably used for more than a month or two? Generally the ones I've tried last for maybe a month before the little pronged legs start to push in and it loses its ability to stay in my phone entirely. Even if that doesn't happen, for some reason they'll fail to provide a proper charge unless you wiggle the end to just the right angle, regardless of how sturdy they seemed on purchase.
Anyone have any brand recommendations? I just want a goddamn quality cable for once in my life.

I am a new professor at a mid-tier university. The computer science curriculum here is shit - they were using python, not teaching anything substantial about type systems, good philosophy about software design, or how to find libraries to get shit done in a pragmatic way.
What's your dream first year of CS look like? I will be integrating the suggestions in this thread into my curriculum. I want it to raise this school's standing in terms of the quality of CS education available here.
