Redpill me on modern phones anon. I have a lumia 920 I bought in late 2012. I need it for work, apps don't bother me. It has super solid design, it's pleasantly heavy and not paper thin, which I like a lot. Also, superb camera. I would hold on to it, but I got my screen finally cracked - I'm not the most careful user, and the replacement is not financially viable at this point.
I didn't have a clue what's trending, so I just explored the market and drowned in options. Problem is, it all looks the same to now. Back in 2012 and earlier you could really tell the huge difference between 200$ and 500$+ phone. The screen would be miles better, some exquisite useful features would be present, you could expect a really solid design, now its all the same pretty much.
So, question nr. 1: is there any point at all to buy an expensive phone nowadays if I need it for work and decent photos? I can barely give a flying fuck how powerful cpu is, it does not affect calling and texting, left alone those gimmicks like finger scans etc, I bet my home-made porn is not that interesting.
Another problem, as mentioned above - design. Modern phones look so goddamn similar. Back in the day, dev's had more fantasy and creativity.
So, question nr. 2. Is there a decent phone on the market which is above 170-180 grams, is NOT paper-thing and has decent solid built? It can be plastic like picrelated. (It's just rock solid, I've dropped it numerous times, no damage whatsoever)
I didn't find anything as described above, but so far Blackberry Priv looks like a lesser evil compared to all that plastic shit around. Any comments about that phone?
PS It's such a shame that a new lumia 950 sucks. Build is so terrible, I didn't believe it's not a 50 bucks phone.
Oh, another thing I don't get. Why would devs make super-thin lightweight design, when even salespeople advise to buy additonal protection, glass and other ugly stuff? What's the point in making a "slick" phone which is bound to be turned into rubber crocs-looking thing?
And anyway, is that "super-thin" thing really comfortable to you people? Or it's just admiration of technology?
I've enjoyed my 520 for awhile but I was interested in a larger screen so I went looking around. Everything looks so breakable. They expect you to use a case, I guess. WP has had no market penetration apparently. Shame too. Damn good phone.
So sheeple. Tell us your experiences of dependability and strength from phones without cases. Please, no android or apple. My God... there is no God.

My mom's a CS graduate but sometime in the early 2000s she stopped giving a shit about keeping up with tech and converted to Apple. Growing up with thinkpads and getting a few handed down to me was nice. It was kinda frustrating, growing up with parents who knew more about computers than me, especially since one worked IT in school district and had all the latest software to monitor computer usage. There were a few times when I did everything right from clearing caches and deleting search history to going in and making sure nothing was left in tmp directories and I still got caught somehow looking for porn.
Dad's not, he was able to install some porn-blocking software.
Mom's yes; been exploiting her tech illiteracy since high school. Managed to get the password to disable the software.

For me it always had terrible user experience. Like the fact that months after release it still does not close tabs in the right order, or how generally slow and choppy it is. It's really a shame because I liked the ideas behind it.

For $30 it'll get the job done. OS isn't that bad, but it could be much better. I believe you can upgrade the 640 to windows 10 mobile as well, but don't quote me on that.

Hello. I am a user of the three systems (Windows, OSX and Linux) and wanted to say a quick thing about something that involves the community.
Well, we're in the middle of 2016 and the Wayland continues walking the short steps, because of turf wars, involving the ideologies of fucking freetards. A few years ago there was a serious discussion involving the OSS and ALSA. After all the pulseaudio dominated a good portion of the distributions.
While the retards are fighting over ideology and licenses, other companies will and do. An example is the canonical, which is doing an excellent job on ubuntu with the Mir 8, integration between mobile and desktop devices.
Google, in turn, didn't want to be waiting on the flap of the retards finish and put his hand in the cookie jar and created his own graphics server for the Chrome OS. Meanwhile, the GNU/Linux and * BSD are still using the xorg, which let's face it is something "prehistoric".
We see a lot of users of GNU/Linux talk ill of the users Windows or OSX, but the same live inside their bubbles fighting over their ideologies of shit or their pathetic licenses, rather than make it happen.
You know what's wrong with GNU/Linux does not take off? Simple: the community itself. While no focus in bringing the system to ordinary users (as some here like to call "normies") GNU/Linux will remain irrelevant under the desktops and mobile devices. Will continue focusing only on servers.
Don't put the blame for MS, Google, Apple, in ordinary users or whoever, because the guilty is exactly the community itself.

It was mostly perpetuated by normies trying to sound like they know about computers.
It was a radical change compared to XP so that helped with the hate.
