Hello guys,
i managed to install Apache and configure a connection to the Internet on a Computer with the following specs:

Compaq Presario CDS520
AMD 486SX-66
8 MB of RAM
500 MB HDD
Windows 3.11 upgraded to 95

I ran Tor on my router connected to this computer. Tor has been configured to publish the IP of my 486 while running Apache.

It's kinda weird but i want to run this construction for a couple of hours soon and you to access this server and post some things onto it. I want to share with you that feeling using a device of our childhood for a very modern purpose.

Is there somebody who really wants to do that when the server is online?
I would post a .onion link if somebody wants to.

Run steam from a terminal and see if it prints out any helpful error messages.
>>
sudo apt purge steam

go to the steam website and download the .deb file from there, try installing that instead.

If we had to skip Windows 9 because of terrible version string checks, does that mean we'll have to skip Windows 20 (2000 match) and 30-39 (3.x match) too?

What features would the perfect browser have?

the perfect browser would give me free money
oh wait that already exists
>>
It would be free software, extensible, customisable, headed by a dev team unaffected by the political climate and fully compliant with all open javascript and HTML standards.

As far as rendering speed and resource usage go it should obviously not be bloated or slow out of the box but on modern hardware. The bottleneck to web browsing is almost always connection speed, though.

Hello everyone.

I don't know about the specs of modern pc software.

I' looking for a recommendation for a computer under 800$ that's fast and can install copious amounts of software.

It's primary purpose is to be a programming studio for me to make apps in.
The languages will be python, c++, java and html.

If any one can recommend me some good hardware I'd appreciate it. I just don't know where to start to look.

As far as OS I want to use gnu/linux, hate windows it's all spyware, hate apple, it's total junk.

Laptop, I'm a starving college student and I never know when I have to couch surf.

I'm hoping this laptop will last a long time.
I'm totally willing to build my own if it makes it last longer as long as it's within budget of 800$

Did you know that you can increment the number under your cursor by pressing ctrl-a?
You can also decrement it by pressing ctrl-x.

What vim tricks did you learn about recently?

I decided to give Windows 10 a try after coming from GNU/Linux and fell for Visual Studio. Vim? Yeah, I've heard of it; just never felt like reading its manual.

Hey /g/

I'm wondering if any of you have an opinion on the best operating system or systems which I can run off an 8GB USB stick, preferably which leave no traces or very few on the system's RAM and particularly the HDD. My common sense tells me that even U/K/Xbuntu live on USB or other Linux distros are as secure as any other, in that they don't use the machine's HDD (much) or deposit a whole lot on the RAM, but are there specialty OS's for this purpose? Note I'm not planning anything illegal but I have paranoid schizophrenia (as it used to be called, now there are no sub-types) and feel better when taking measure such as these. In other words I have strong irrational fears, which I know are irrational intellectually, but nevertheless I can't shake the notion I'm being surveyed/followed whatever...

Also without making a new thread - is there some way to , in the USA, subpoena organizations who port scan you to find out why they connected with your external IP at a specific date/time etc? That's not terribly important, though but if anyone knows I appreciate it. Thank you.
