Hey /g/
I'm wondering if any of you have an opinion on the best operating system or systems which I can run off an 8GB USB stick, preferably which leave no traces or very few on the system's RAM and particularly the HDD. My common sense tells me that even U/K/Xbuntu live on USB or other Linux distros are as secure as any other, in that they don't use the machine's HDD (much) or deposit a whole lot on the RAM, but are there specialty OS's for this purpose? Note I'm not planning anything illegal but I have paranoid schizophrenia (as it used to be called, now there are no sub-types) and feel better when taking measure such as these. In other words I have strong irrational fears, which I know are irrational intellectually, but nevertheless I can't shake the notion I'm being surveyed/followed whatever...
Also without making a new thread - is there some way to , in the USA, subpoena organizations who port scan you to find out why they connected with your external IP at a specific date/time etc? That's not terribly important, though but if anyone knows I appreciate it. Thank you.

OP here. Thanks, all. Tails I already downloaded but I got confused where it's all "Use 2 separate USB sticks", and am not the RTFM type... But I'll definitely look further into it now. And yeah, I've been using Xubuntu on my own Toshiba C55-B5299 (a $200 or so laptop 2 years ago), just because it works. Sadly the whole GNU/Linux OS arena still is in about 1995 in in terms of audio/video production, editing, recording such as DAWs, progrums like Guitar Rig (yeah I know they have some amp modeling software but it's relatively shitty), and so on. Also Metasploit seems to be a bitch to install on various distros, if you can even get it running and as far as I can tell WINE has been really poorly working the past year or so, but it could be the two or three distros I've tried/their configs.
What would /g/ use as an OS then for native windows and largely OS X software, as well (but not Unix/Linux, other kernels) for media creation and production? The stereotype seems to be a mac with OS X, or at least OS X itself... but I've read on here not that long ago that OS X is actually far less secure than NT Windows. Any comments on using Windows Server 08 R2 as a desktop solution, single user? Just disabling the main server features and so forth? I'm a bit surprised more don't do that. Rambling again - have a nice day if I am not around in a bit.
