I got a fully working El Capitan hackintosh on my rig. the last time I used a mac was in school and it was a Macintosh 512Ke. What are the must have on OS X? What browser should I use?
there are no must haves for osx because there is nothing to have
chrome or firefox or whatever the fuck else, it really doesnt matter

Nice, even with an AMD card.
I use Bettertouchtool and Alfred a lot, other than that istat if you want to monitor your hardware. Other than that, just anything that you also used on your previous system and whatever browser you prefer.

Use Safari. Use all built in apps for that matter, unless you find them super limiting. You'll be better off if you ever get other apple devices, as it all works together perfectly.
Do you have blue text working btw? Last time i followed hacks they were having issues with that
also don't install java or flash. if you feel you need flash, download chrome and just open the page in it using the safari develop menu. both flash and java are the gayest shit on earth and the biggest security threats to a mac user. Even Adobe are killing flash now

Being on the 775 socket, with nvidia card, should i even try getting it to work (Asus p5kpl-am mobo), or should i proceed directly to the laptop (i5 no discrete gpu). I want to try it
Can anyone educate me on security in OS X? Do OS X users run resident antiviruses or occasional virus scans?
Inb4 things like using adblock, up-to-date software only from trusted sources, and not being a retard, these are kinda obvious and apply to any OS.

If your computer's motherboard was made for Intel processors, and was manufactured in 2010 or newer, there is a pretty good chance that it will work with OS X.

OS X offers "out of the box" support for many graphics cards in the NVIDIA 500 series, 600 series, and 700 series. Google your card and visit tonymacx86 forum.

You definitely don't need an AV. There are barely any viruses for OS X and now that el capitan has SIP, it's pretty safe.

BetterTouchTool is mandatory for snapping. I also use it to get the back/forward buttons on my mouse working; I don't use any other features but it can do a lot.
Get the Office suite installed of course. Transmission for torrents, Adobe suite for imagery, Sublime Text for... text editing. If you code, you want Homebrew and Dash. mpv for videos, unless the UI puts you off.
Other than that, it depends what you do.

I just use Chrome, To Be Honest. Safari is quite nice if you're looking for a change, though.

OS X does not require an antivirus. Using one is actually a bad plan as it will only get in your way.
safari is generally the best browser but it has no webm support and the dev tools kinda sucks imo
