8 years of being a Linux user and I finally decided this system is shit and I'm moving to Windows.
Just a few warnings to those who are considering taking up Linux:
- It's slow. Very slow. Comparing to Windows it's bullshit-tier slow. Drivers are sluggish and the system CANNOT take advantage of your new, hypermodern PC. The support is just not there. So when you're using Linux you're telling your computer "I'm fine if you only use 20% of your capabilities". That's like driving a Ferrari to work and back.
- The community is the worst community online. There just isn't a worse community. People are egoistical and unhelpful, they are self-righteous and many of them act like using Linux is a religion. Good luck getting help when something breaks down, you're more likely to get attacked than anything. The community is torn against itself, so people from one distro will argue against people of another distro. It's like trying to get help in the midst of a civil war.
- Things break constantly and all the time. You update a library to a new version and you have a dependency problem. An update happens and your system just breaks. Things that you take for granted one day, may not work the next day. That's the consistency of a Linux install. About as consistent as diarrhea.
- Things change without your approval. You like that new update? Well, you better like all the features as well, you best get accustomed to the new UI changes too. And don't worry, we'll change things up in the next update to not let you relax and focus on your work - instead we'll make you search for common features elsewhere, because it's fun!
- Program support and gaming. Have fun not being able to run professional programs or AAA game titles. But since I'm on Linux and therefore a haxor, it's all good, right? Don't you find it funny how everything you can run on Linux you can run on Windows, but not the other way around?
- Let's not even mention the fact that the entire Linux architecture is decentralized and scattered. Want to get some info on your drives? Oh, just use this obscure command in conjunction with another obscure command to get some obscure shit printed out that you can then continue to translate for an hour or two. Because, you know, living in 1970 is fun.
Fuck Linux.
I saw Richard Stallman at a grocery store in NYC yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

What cheap Chinese tech have you bought, and would you recommend it?
Yes, we know everything is already from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on eBay, AliExpress and similar sites.

Anybody here own a SQ8 spy cam? Does it overheat? I don't care about video or sound quality. I need it to record personal conversations, that's all.
Most of you retards don't know what this is; so /g/ = children. Also vocal minority.

How many games are gonna support Vulkan instead of/alongside with DX12?
Will it flop like Mantle and OpenGL?
>>53820717
mantle and opengl didnt flop it evolved into vulkan and got more backing.
I belive a lot of games made for steamos, ps4 will be vulkan. but MS will shill hard and pay off devs most AAA will be dx12
>>53820808
Pretty much this
I'd say Vulkan will be huge on Linux gaming, not sure about PS4 but if it is used on PS4 hopefully more games can be ported without being terrible. Also agreed with the MS part, they probably won't need to pay off devs like EA and Ubisoft, they'll shill DX12 on their own
>>53821014
The PS4 has its own API I think.
What are you doing tonight /g/?
Pic related, about to hit up the ol' Voodoo 2.
I should dig out my old computer and rev up Win 98. Dat old game compatibility

Fucking speccy Cunts. And remember ayymd fags, try to include a speedfan result for your cpu as speccy reads the temp. incorrectly.

Nigger fuck off, comparing specs isn't inheritantly related to video games. I doubt you even mean that shit anyway, just want to be the one to post it first, copy pasta jew.
ITT: black people technology
Why do people buy underpowered "quad-core" android TV boxes when a $40 core2duo machine plays video much more effectively? Those chinese shitboxes don't even play 10-bit anime, while even a dual-core desktop processor from 2006 has no problems software-decoding Hi10p 1080p video.
Combined with a debian install, an SSD and a wireless keyboard, you have a machine that starts up in mere seconds and opens mpv/kodi/whatever to play whatever you want.
Because its already set up for them and a lot of people don't know or aren't comfortable setting it up themselves??
Did you even give this question the slightest bit of thought, or did you just feel like shitposting?
>>53820078
Because those android boxes don't use 200w just to play videos.
>>53820078
Where can I buy a 40 dollar computer that comes with an ssd?
W7 is a 3 course meal at a Michelin star restaurant, everything is done for you, and you can expect high quality service and food/drink, linux is eating out of the dumpster outside, sure you might taste some of the good stuff, but you are eating and sifting through garbage for scraps.
Linux worshippers will deny this even though it is objectively true.

What compression do you use for your backups /g/?
7z. Great compression ratio.
by the graph pcompress seems the superior choice
>>53819739
None. My backups are a rsync clone, no frills. Inefficient but convenient.
I know we can probably already build them but they're not exactly well known or mainstream
So when do you think this trend will take off (again)?
You can build one already.
The trends are for small PCs, so all the advantages of having TDPs are removed since there's less to work with.
although it's best to instead of having a completely passive PC, have one or two large diameter fans spinning very slowly, producing a small airflow with below audible sound. Below audible fans are better than no fans.
>>53819634
>How far away are we from passively cooled desktop PCs?
They exist.
>they're not exactly well known or mainstream
Most people don't need them,
>So when do you think this trend will take off (again)?
Not for a very long time.
Fans are cheap, and greatly increase the performance per dollar of a desktop computer.
>>53819634
There's a lot of small passively cooled Atom-based boxes you can buy. They work for web browsing and office stuff just fine.
