What cheap Chinese tech have you bought, and would you recommend it?

Yes, we know everything is already from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on eBay, AliExpress and similar sites.

Just snapped my chomebook in half, ripped off the screen, and ripped out whatever I could off the motherboard.

Fucking faggot computer wouldn't let me restore chromeOs after installing windows. apparently you have to boot linux then flash the bios that way. the bios boot drive never worked so i said fuck it and destroyed it. fuck nthat piece of trash, it should have worked correctly and not been so fucking slow and it might have had a longer life

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", lightweight
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

I was hoping to get a tablet computer with stylus and came up on a $54 total HP Elitebook 2740p. Just needs basic stuff like a HDD, HDD cover, power supply, etc.

It's kinda nice that it is an i5 as well rather than a Core Duo for the price.

Good deal?

Definitely would prefer a ThinkPad, but budget constraints.

php sucks and if you're a php dev then you're part of the problem
>>

If you have a visitor with a bad computer then your Javascript will take forever to load. PHP won't.

Not even half the people are running a computer from the last 5 years, so PHP is best.

So I've been comparing the new HD598SE to my buddies HD558 and my HD650, I use to own the old 598 (I may have had a defective pair), but I swear the new HD598SE has more bass and a richer sound than the old 598 I use to have a couple years back.

The bass is tighter and goes as low as my 650's now. For sure has strong bass on the new 598SE I got. Not to mention they are very neutral and pretty clear sounding. I remember my old 598 being a tad bright, these new 598SE are anything but bright, I would call them warm before bright to be honest. I've used them in both my asgard 2 and bimby and just from my motherboard and desu it sounds great out of both. Super impressed with the new cans. (and this is coming from someone who returned the old 598 TWICE a couple years ago, for sure keeping these)

I'll start: "cloud"

I used to be with you, now I embrace that term, because I used to have to call it shit like remote computing or remote storage and people wouldn't understand. Now I just say cloud and they think they understand

>Linux’s Bash shell is coming to Windows, courtesy of a collaboration between Microsoft and Ubuntu-creator Canonical. Type bash into Windows 10’s Start menu, and you’ll be able to instantly get a full Linux command-line environment.
>It’s not a virtual machine or container
>This solution will be an app available in the Windows Store, and it will provide a full Ubuntu image that runs in userspace as a program on your desktop. Programs compiled for Linux will just run without even needing to be recompiled for Windows. You can use Ubuntu’s apt-get command to download and install programs, and it’ll just work. Developers can write Bash scripts and run them on Windows. It’s reportedly just as fast as running the same utilities natively on Ubuntu Linux.
Checkmate, atheists.

What if they're compiled for Arch? Will they still work then?
>>
>>53815906
Yes, as long as you have the full arch root directory. Because it need the shared libraries.

They write a full linux binary emulator hooking the syscalls (lxcore.sys)

Why do bookshelf speakers cost so damn much?

Theyre such an old piece of tech that've been around relatively unchanged and mass produced for 50+ years

Is it because hipsters cucks will pay anything just to epeen over some frequencies it's been proven the human ear cant even notice ?

Or is there something I'm missing?

Just find a cheaper model or buy used.

It's the same with cars.
>>
>>53814294
It's not the same with cars. Cars have changed alot in 50years relatively.

My Dad has some well looked after speakers from the 60s and 70s. Exactly the same. Same connections. Indiscernable sound quality compared to my mates brand new audio engines. What gives?
>>
>>53814127
No you're pretty much right. There's a certain point where difference in quality plateaus but price keeps rising, driven by brand loyalty and marketing.

Then it hits a point where you have to spend "fuck you" amounts of money to get something better.
