You get to change the screen DPI setting so you don't have to deal with retarded huge text everywhere.

Coincidentally, this can also make Android default to using tablet UIs everywhere which tend to take better advantage of the screen.

Since Valve seems to have more or less forgotten about whole Steam Universe project, could we be the ones who get more OEMs on board?
Getting more and better choice of Steam Machines is the only way that is missing to achieve recognition of Linux as valid gaming platform.

the only reason valve started this project is to sidestep any potential fuckery by microsoft

as microsoft shifts further towards controlling their own "app store" and cutting valve out of their main source of income they need to solidify their own operating system

a nice side benefit is a decent TV experience and probably some VR help

I can't see linux ever being a good choice for gaming. Even if they some how manage it I don't see how they'll do it for games that aren't cross compatible except for use a windows emulator like wine at a serious cost to performance.
>>

>ever
That's quite a long time.
And yes, how do you play DOS games and older console games on computer? You emulate them.
If Linux ever gets relevant, it will be so far in the future that computers won't have problem emulating what is currently ran natively on Windows.

So I've been using Ubuntu for a while and I wanted to try out a new distro with more options.

>try archbang
>spend hour installing
>sudo pacman -Syyu to update
>can't use pacman to add anything until I update
>update
>breaks
>revert
>can't use pacman
>update
>breaks

After wasting my entire day on this, I give up. I know what's breaking but I just don't care anymore. Can you suggest a distro that can work on a shitty 8 year old laptop and won't constantly break? I have decided that I don't want bleeding edge, I want functionality.

Why not both? Give openSUSE tumbleweed a try, you'll love it.

Debian?
If you're coming from Ubuntu, that's probably the best idea really.
You could also opt for Crunchbang (BunsenLabs) if you want an ultra-lightweight debian installation.

Should I buy a CPU for overclocking?
Intel Core i7-4770 is like 20 bucks cheaper than Intel Core i7-4770k. I have no experience at all with overclocking.
Is it worth overclocking for some fraps?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Only if you have cpu watercooling, otherwise enjoy your housefire.
>>
I have never understand why people overclock their cpus. An i7 4770 is more than suficient to anything, then why I would OC it and spend an extra so it don't melt my case?
>>
If I don't want to overclock and don't want to pay i7 prices.
But still want a cpu that can handle gaming and some other side applications.
Can I go too wrong with a Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor?

Which one, /g/?

Seeing you aren't interacting with the screen directly sliding upwards feels completely wrong.

>The Future we were promised:

Portable, convenient, useful and long lasting tech that facilitated productivity, made life easier for us, and saved us time and anxiety. Hardware was becoming simplified, smaller, and needed less power to in order to last longer.

>The Future we were shafted with:

Obnoxious, glaring, distraction boxes that barely function for the few hours they don’t need to be plugged into an outlet, - that is if they are not already too scratched or unresponsive to do the one simple task you need them for. Cloud and ‘ecosystem’ bullshit, botnet and bloat. Everything needs a shitty camera. Everything needs wifi. Everything needs to be replaced within 2-3 years.

It's your fault for buying shitty hardware.
I haven't needed to replace anything in forever because I don't buy things based on gimmicks.

Given that I'm running a 6 year old pc setup at this point, is it worth going for a 6th gen intel over a 4th gen one? 6th gen supports ddr4, which sounds nice, but for gaming (main use) is apparently irrelevant, and doesn't seem to be any faster either. However, going for the new 1151 socket would make the setup a bit more upgradable/futureproof.
What is your take on this, /g/?
