a nice side benefit is a decent TV experience and probably some VR help
I can't see linux ever being a good choice for gaming. Even if they some how manage it I don't see how they'll do it for games that aren't cross compatible except for use a windows emulator like wine at a serious cost to performance.

And yes, how do you play DOS games and older console games on computer? You emulate them.
If Linux ever gets relevant, it will be so far in the future that computers won't have problem emulating what is currently ran natively on Windows.

So I've been using Ubuntu for a while and I wanted to try out a new distro with more options.

If you're coming from Ubuntu, that's probably the best idea really.
You could also opt for Crunchbang (BunsenLabs) if you want an ultra-lightweight debian installation.

Should I buy a CPU for overclocking?
Intel Core i7-4770 is like 20 bucks cheaper than Intel Core i7-4770k. I have no experience at all with overclocking.
Is it worth overclocking for some fraps?

I have never understand why people overclock their cpus. An i7 4770 is more than suficient to anything, then why I would OC it and spend an extra so it don't melt my case?
If I don't want to overclock and don't want to pay i7 prices.
But still want a cpu that can handle gaming and some other side applications.

Ok anon, what's a DE grown up and busy adults like yourself use?
Given that I'm running a 6 year old pc setup at this point, is it worth going for a 6th gen intel over a 4th gen one? 6th gen supports ddr4, which sounds nice, but for gaming (main use) is apparently irrelevant, and doesn't seem to be any faster either. However, going for the new 1151 socket would make the setup a bit more upgradable/futureproof.
What is your take on this, /g/?
