Im installing my PC and everything is going fine but im a little confused with the GPU. I put the 8 pin connector in the PSU, and now do i have to put in the 6+2 (the other end of the 8 pin) in the GPU and thats it? Or do i need to put another cable in the 6 pin right next to it?

What is Gentoo's pros and cons anyway, and would a shitty netbook run faster on compiled programs than pre-compiled binary bullshit?
More customizable than other distros, choose what features get compiled in, more lightweight packages, more processor architecture specific compile time optimization. It's noticeably faster than arch and other binary distros.
Con would be its learning curve and long install/upgrade times.

Probably a cool media player control while biking. That's all I can see it being useful for. For communication with anyone it's way too small.

So /g/, what's a good lightweight OS for a 32-bit netbook?
This girl I dated left her's at my place around 2 years ago and its just been sitting around collecting dust upon its many "my little pony" stickers so I reformatted it with Windows 7 sp2 and gave it to my friend who's too poor to afford any electronics, let alone a computer for school.
Anyway, he's been complaining that it's been slow, which is expected from a tiny-ass netbook, but sometimes programs would just fail to start with no error message and multitasking is just plain impossible. The only reason I installed w7 is because I'm a casual and have never explored any linux based OSs. So I'm asking if there are any bare-bones OSs made for simple hardware that feature maybe just a file explorer, word processor and browser? I would really appreciate the help, and my friend needs something to do homework on.
Linux has never been relevant to my life up until now so that's why I'm asking for guidance.

Just software compatibility. For web browsing use opera, the latest one. It's smooth on my d2500, even with 1080p YouTube(some videos run fine at 1080p,not all), and vlc is a decent multimedia player.
