explain the "dimm size equates to how much an application can actually use, its not just a total amount of memory equally avalible" thing to me

i see this in all the "16/32 gig meme" stuff and ppl will argue over whether 2 4gig dimms are worse than 1 single 8gig dimm even without dual channel is still better cause applications can have access to more of the memory

It is a meme. Just like linux, ssd, jews, gimpworks, staleman sticky etc. this whole board is one dank meme
>>
>>54764923
Always double the amount of RAM /g/ recommends.

There was a time when they laughed at people who had 8GB.
>>

>>54765043

so theres zero truth to how much an application can actually use total based on any 1 dimm's size?

If you're not excited about Snaps, you should be. They offer a lot of advantages over standard deb packages:

Sandboxing (with a caveat for apps running under X11 - Mir and Wayland address this issue) Even if a snap is malicious, it can't hurt you. This is absolutely untrue of debs - you have to give them root access to your host! Want to try out a promising app from a suspicious website? No worries with a Snap. With a deb, you're playing with fire.

Easy packaging & distribution The easier it is for developers to develop, package, and distribute their apps, the more we all benefit. More apps, higher-quality apps, and faster updates.

Self contained Snaps easily survive upgrades because their dependencies are included. No more worrying about losing your favorite niche app because it didn't make the cut.

Application partitioning When you uninstall a Snap, everything is uninstalled. No more miscellaneous files mucking up root.

If you still have doubts about Snaps, I strongly recommend researching them. They have very powerful advantages over traditional packaging.

Hey, you're obviously terrible at viral marketing since all you do is copy paste what your boss wrote instead of actually doing your job.
So, can I have your job?

Instead of all this botnet shit why doesn't somebody come up with something useful. Like a way for me search for local images based on description, not just title, type, dimensions, etc. For example, I type in spiders and it shows me all the pictures I have saved with spiders in it.

So I need to move from W7 32bit to W7 64bit (Long story on what happened)

My issue is what version of 7 should I install (the one with the less bloatware) and how can I avoid W10 installing on me after after a while.

Hey /g/, I had a quick question for you guys.

What exactly powers the internet? How exactly does it all work? How do individuals start their own ISPs?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>54764543
It's a bunch of smaller networks connected together and to larger networks, some money is involved and some goodwill.

The larger networks are owned by universities or large corporations that were "in on it" from the start.

If you want to start your own ISP, you must first have in place some infrastructure that you own. Can be radio (WiMAX, whatever), fiber, ASDL over old telephone wires/coax.
>>
>>54764543
Electricity, and enterprise.
>>
>>54764543
>what powers the internet
pretty vague question, but i guess porn is the biggest driving factor of the internet, maybe social networking
>how exactly does it all work
Thats well beyond the scope of one post, but if you can undertand how you can connect one computer to another, all you have to do is imagine all the people in your area connected to an ISP, and all those ISPs are connected together. websites are just computers connected to an ISP
>how to into ISP business
you either buy the infrastructure off of an existing ISP (very expensive) or you build your own (even more expensive)

So there's an old trope in movies/annie maes that has humanity's supercomputers being overrun by an mechanical-organic intelligence, best example that /g/ will probably understand is the Angel in Evangelion ep 13.

My question is: can we ever design a OS that can prevent these hacks? I feel like the current systems would get pwned pretty fast (but have no evidence to support this, it's just that I don't think we could react to something we haven't seen)

I'd upgrade to an i5 or wait for Zen. You also picked a micro ATX motherboard, I'd get a micro ATX case to go with it instead of a full sized ATX case like the 200R you have picked out.
