I've always found mandatory things to put people off, If I ever do have kids I'll let them do whatever they want unless it objectively harms them.
Of-course I'll encourage reading and learning but won't force it because I've seen too many failures where that was the cause (petty rebellion.)

Who owns the internet?

The usual answer is "nobody" however let's say i was willing to take out the lease on a building anywhere I need to and provide my own servers/networking/routers/hubs etc.... where could I go to hook up my equipment to "the Internet" for free?

if there is literally no way to do this no matter where you go or how much equipment you provide, do the people you must pay not for all intents and purposes "own the internet"

?

or am i missing something

I created some USB stick images in IMZ format with USB Image Tool. They are larger than they optimally should be because the tool apparently is filesystem-agnostic (images the drive block-by-block as, say, dd would) and there was old data left on it not part of the filesystem anmore. Is there a way to wipe the space within such an image that is empty from the point of view of the filesystem, and thus reduce the image size?

(pic unrelated)

Bump. Any ideas how to compact an IMZ image (or even an uncompressed IMG image which can then be compressed manually much better after the deleted data is wiped)?

>inb4 "wipe empty space before imagining, or restore image to USB stick, wipe empty space, and reimage"

That's both time-consuming and putting unnecessary strain on the USB stick, wasting write its write cycles. There should be a way to wipe empty space on volumes within IMG/IMZ images?
>>
Why do you want an image, not a .RAR of the files?
>>
>>52437358
Good question, the reason is quite simple though - they're images of bootable USB sticks, which are more or less complicated and/or time-consuming to create, such as multiboot USB sticks with various troubleshooting tools, or Linux installers created with Unetbootin (which usually take some time to create, and put strain on the USB stick as the filesystem is built). I want to archive bootable images which may be useful in the future, while optimally keeping them as compact as possible (hence the IMZ format, but old data within the raw image makes it less compressible).

I'm faced with a similar choice for a project that incorporates a parser. So far I am leaning towards "neither". I don't want to depend on the CLR or to be trapped in OCaml land with no libraries and weird named argument syntax.

I've been thinking of what languages to use for this (static typing, ADTs, pattern matching plus decent libraries being the main requirements) and have come up with the following list:
* Scala
* Rust
* Swift
* Typed Racket
* PureScript
More suggestions are welcome.

There are also Erlang and Elixir, which while untyped are cool in their own way.

Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try Linux, you can:

1) Install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full Linux experience".
3) Dual-boot Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about Linux)
4) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with Linux (not recommended)

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe wine can make up for it.

Hello, I am emailing this here cause i feel the internet community needs to know about it, and i cannot post on 4 chan cause it keeps giving me a duplicate post error and it isn't posting.

There is something that is bugging me. I am running windows 10 and I am verified connected through my VPN. However, the pirate bay site refuses to work bringing me the blocked site, checking with an IP checker proves I am in my VPN. This works on windows 8.1. I got on in the end via the tor browser. What the fuck is going on? Why is windows 10 somehow bypassing my VPN for the pirate bay when windows 8.1 didn't! Something is up here, somehow redirecting me to the UK ISP court ...orders site. It also refuses to work via opera turbo which is verified working with an IP checker when opera turbo is enabled/disabled, under my windows 10 install. I am incredibly concerned that my operating system is trying to censor what I go on. This is through a VPN, the same conditions work under windows 8.1. A VPN is an encrypted link between me and that server, meaning the only way I can be forcibly redirected is through the OS (windows), not while the data is in transit. Yes I have cleared my browser cache.

I need someone else to try reproducing this in the UK. If this is proven that it is bypassing VPNs and blocking it on the OS level, then this is a serious violation of liberties by the operating system
