I really like the surface pattern and the way the keyboard is parralel to it while the kindle is at 30 degrees making the cord look like a sine wave filling the empty space between them.

looks neat

What does technolo/g/y think about technocracy?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
never heard of it
>>
>>55092917
It's like a type of democracy where the elected people has a carreer on the post that's gonna occupie. For example, the justice minister needs to have a grade in law. The bad thing about technocracy it's that the person who has the job coulb be a commie, a fascist or whatever thinking
>>
>>55092906
>>55093003
it's a silly idea by silly people for silly people, because technocrats lack political expertise and an understanding of the greater whole.

Best monitor for the best price?

Bonus: best keyboard, mouse, speakers for the best price?

HP 23W
$1 Mechanical keyboard from a thrift store. Restore it yourself.
Intellimouse Explorer from a thrift store
Bookshelf speakers from the '70s or '80s with their receiver. Mid to high-end stuff only. Again, check thrift stores.

HP 23XW, sorry

>>55092753
So what you're saying is keyboard, mouse and speakers can be very very cheap without sacrificing quality?

Thanks for the tips by the way

Trying to start a thread about storage technologies, let's see how many other people are into it.
What storage do you use?
What protocols?
What are you looking forward for the next generation of storage?

I work mostly with NetApp storage machines in SAN environment with UNIX front-end.
Our fabric is made by Brocade switches, a few NetApp cluster, and tape libraries.
I'm seriously looking forward to DNA based storage and how this could possibly change the market

>>
>tfw no home version of NetApp filers.

After I spent some time with those devices I don't want to use anything else. But they only sell shit mounted in racks.

>>55092470
Are you running CDOT or 7mode?
>>
I'm more of a database guy myself, but I'm curious. Why do people still use tape storage in this day and age? Any benefits over disk/solid state storage?
>>
>>55092532

Its cheap. If your RTO is high you don't need disk to disk backup. Also archiving. When you need to store shit for 10 years for some reason, you don't need HDDs for that.

Hello /g/ This is my first gaming pc desktop I built a few days ago , since then I have been running my games on a 1600x900 hp monitor

AMD FX 8300
8GB RIPJAWS RAM
MSI GTX 970

My question is , I'm looking into a 1920x1080 screen for the first time , how bad would my fps be hit in the upgrade?

For games now I get 60fps no problem.

>>
>>55092089
Most demanding game is The Witcher 3, where you'll get about 30FPS on Ultra at 1080p. Turn down a few settings to get 60FPS.

Check benchmarks, noob.
>>
>>55092089
1080p if fucking old school dude. My 270x, which should be weaker than your card, blast through 1440p no problem.

I'm getting everything from this page

It works when i put input at 2 and 7, but when i check for it, there's no output from any other pins. Any help?

Is Libreboot even worth the hassle to install?

>>
Is designed for SOME machines, you can't just install it.
>>
I love it. But what you call "hassle" I consider a fun project.

The real winning feature is the ability to boot to USB from BIOS. No need for a hdd in your machine!

GNU and Linux will enable you to live in freedom, at least as regards your computer is concerned, because, of course, it won't guarantee your freedom in other areas of life. We can't do that by writing software, but at least in your own computer you'll be able to live in freedom if you insist on Free Software. I'm not going to repeat what I said at the beginning of this talk, because it would take to much time, but there is a recording being made, so you can listen to what I said at the beginning, about this very issue.

But, y'know, freedom, it's not guaranteed that you can have freedom without ever any sacrifice. The sacrifice will certainly include that you don't use Autocad, because Autocad is a non-free program. It tramples your freedom. So you have to get rid of Autocad to have freedom.

In regard to a drawing program, I think maybe, did you say Corel Draw? I couldn't hear the list. But we have drawing programs, like the GIMP. Or Inkscape, but I've never used those things.

The point is that in some cases there is Free Software you can use to do those things. In some cases maybe there's not, and when there isn't, that means, at least temporarily, to live in freedom requires a certain sacrifice. Fortunately not a big sacrifice.

There are times when freedom has required people to sacrifice their lives, but here we can win freedom with nothing more than an inconvenience. I'm sure there was a time in your life when you hadn't got a computer and didn't use any of those programs. And somehow, you got through it and you didn't die.

We're doing our best, y'know. We've been working on developing Free Software for twenty-three years now, and we've done a lot and there's still more we have to do. In order for us to do more, more have to volunteer. We're doing what we can, so to ask us to do something is sort of the wrong approach. We need people to come forward and say "I want to do something". Then we can do more. That's what it takes.

I'm writing a microservice in Perl using Sinatra, and Template::Toolkit as the templating engine. It works fine and gets the job done, but I'd like to add some more interactivity and friendliness to it, like firing-off HTTP GET requests and displaying an error/success banner in a non-intrusive way, depending on JSON results.

I'm a backend developer and usually stay far-the-fuck-away from frontend development. So, now I need some help. What JavaScript libraries or frameworks do you folks use these days for adding interactivity/responsiveness to your webapps? I could probably hack-together my own shit, but I'm lazy and I want to see if someone has solved these problems already.

And yes, bring on the memes and shitposting /g/, because we don't make fun of frontend web development enough.

Bump. A pathetic old backend dev needs help with keeping up with the times.
>>
>>55091647
I'm a front end dev, and I do everything myself. I don't even use jQuery.
Fucking self centered back-end devs should suffer trying to figure out how good UIs are made. We don't get respect, you don't get help

>Fucking self centered back-end devs should suffer trying to figure out how good UIs are made. We don't get respect, you don't get help.

Has this been your personal experience with backend developers? I figured most of the "hipster" and shitting on frontend devs comes from people who don't know anything about development or who only pretend that they do, like most of /g/.
