Lads, I unfortunately bought a Macbook air for college roughly 10 months ago. I switched major and would like to go to a windows or linux based computer for the programming classes I'll be taking next semester. Whats a simple/cheap/effective laptop I could get for programming and word processing.
I understand that I could use bootcamp, but I could also sell it and buy something less expensive and just as useful. That being said, if I could be convinced to keep it I will.

I personally would've gone for the 850 PRO since the 1TB sku has 10 years or 300 TB written warranty whereas the 850 EVO 1TB has only 5 years or 150 TBW but under normal loads you shouldn't be anywhere near those numbers even after a few years.

Hey /g/, my laptop stopped booting the other day and I'm pretty sure the hard drive is dead, could you guys help me confirm? I removed the drive and connected it to my desktop via USB/SATA cable. Here's what I've tried and the error's I've gotten:
In my computer, trying to open the drive says it's not accessible and gives one of two errors, either that the request failed due to a fatal hardware error, or that the parameter is incorrect. Right clicking and going into properties and error checking returns that the check cannot be performed...

That is for undeleting files.
If you cant get the drive to give you access to your files you are going to need to try a pcb replacement or a head replacement.
you should probably attempt neither of them, especially the head replacement.
Data recovery shops can be expensive, but you might want to look into that.
Also if you do change the parts out, remember to only use the drive long enough to get the data off of it. Afterwards the drive is to never...

The 1060 will be probably like 40-50$ more expensive than the 480 but it's performance will be significantly better, so most people will bite the bullet, scrounge up the extra cash and go with the better product instead of the cheaper one.

I think it's referring to computex where AMD had a demo of DOOM on an rx 480 running at 1440p *on a 1080p monitor*. People became skeptical if it was actually running at 1440p since the AMD employees wouldn't let people mess with the settings.
