Best laptop around $500 for college? Non meme and at least an i5
>/g/ is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site.

>look, mom, I posted it again!
It doesn't matter. Search Newegg, filter by processor, look for sales.
Why doesn't /g/ shill solus?

when 1.2 comes out in like the next two days everyone should give it a shot

it works
>>55086150
it's legitimately the best modern one. built with GTK3 from the ground up. It's lightweight and the compositor isn't shit. that's rare these days
Sister gave me this laptop after a student at her college stepped on it and broke the screen. Happens two years ago and she was about to throw it away. Stock specs are 4gb, Carleton dual core. 1tb HDD, 15 inch LCD. HDD and ram were damaged, main board and CPU worked fine. Battery and PSU were shot. Spent $200 and replace broken screen. New 9 cell battery and 90w PSU. Upgraded the CPU to an i7 2670qm CPU. Bother win10. Bought an HDD caddy and have 1 750hdd gb and 1 600hdd GB that I had laying around. 6gb ram I had laying around as well. Has /g/ ever saved a PC/laptop?
>Bother win10
It sure is

Hey guys, i'm building up a new computer.
Still, i can't choose between those two

MSI Z170A GAMING PRO Carbon
Any help?

Tell that to the stupid weeb desktop and battlestation threads. I genuinely want to know why my server is at 100% with ~ 100 connections

Fuck Rasmus.
Has CPU technology reached its peak? I can alternate between a CPU from 2015 and a CPU from 2010 and not notice any difference in performance.
>anime question girl.jpg
>>55085909
>not notice any difference in performance.
I think that you have meant "not notice any difference in performance during some Internet browsing, light gaming and things like that".
In AAA games there is a deference, but it's not huge though.
>>55085909
Kind of, yea. Outright performance has been pushed aside for power efficiency. Current processors are AMAZINGLY powerful for their power draw compared to older ones, but not significantly much more powerful overall. What this has led to, though, is very high numbers of cores in a single package.
Is it worth learning?
Been playing around with it a bit(just doing simple things like user input and other little things)
Pros/Cons?
Where did you learn it?
>>55085891
don't waste you're time
looks very nice but why does it have to use such weird characters?
how do you even type them in from your keyboard?
Also how does it work? I'm too lazy to read right now, so, what's that unique feature of APL?
>>55085891
>Is it worth learning?
No.

BULLSHIT AND LIES
150W retard! 150!
I can't handle these memes.
I'm building a new PC and I can't handle the graphics card memes.
480 is shit, 480 is the best thing of all time. 1070 is shit, 1070 is the best thing of all time.
What's just a meme and what's true? Should I wait for a 480 or should I get a previous-generation nvidia card such as a 970? I am new to PC building and this is all so confusing and hard to get accurate information... it doesn't help that the GPU industry is needlessly confusing/complex, seemingly by design. All the weird naming conventions, marketing gimmicks and shit that the companies use for their cards seems like it's designed to confuse me. What should I do /g/?
just get the 480 retard
>>55085810
Don't fuckin take /g/'s advice. All we are are a bunch of neckbeard cladded fan boys who have nothing better to do with our day than to spout red and green colored memes all day. Do your own research.
The 480 is $200 and has enough performance for 1080p@60 in every game ever made.
Shut the fuck up and buy it
Was testing Windows Update to get some security patches, but even when I only select one random security module, Windows Update tries to download Win10 setup files. I've already gone back and uninstalled previous packs. How are you supposed to get past this?
>>55085735
Shut the fuck up and install Windows 10 you stupid cunt there's literally nothing wrong with it compared to 7 unless you're an assburger who likes to use outdated software. It's ridiculous the things people do just to look cool on /g/.
>>55086318
> Shut the fuck up and install Windows 10
> It's ridiculous the things people do just to look cool on /g/.
Yeah, it's truly ridiculous.
>>55085735
>How are you supposed to get past this?
Standalones off the actual microsoft website. Don't get your updates through windows updates.
>software requires me to do anything other than use a package manager to install
welp, time to find an alternative...
>>55085683
I saw RMS in person last week.
GNU is literally cancer.

Does anyone have one of these? My mouse shit out and I had the idea of using this as a mouse. Obviously, it has no laser but I was thinking a mapping mouse movement to the thumb pad. Is this possible?
>>55085601
why not buy a fucking mouse?
>>55085608
This would be a lot handier to have. The idea of mapping a bunch commands and prompts to those buttons makes me wet.
>>55085621
it's only a 4 directional joystick. defaults to the arrow keys because it functions the same way. really only good for weapon wheel fpss. you're better off with a steam controller.
Need some help and advice.
Built a new computer. Specs
-amd fx-8320 black edition
-msi 970 gaming motherboard
-msi R9 390 8gb gpu
- cooler master g650m 650 watt psu
-16 GB corsair vengeance ram
Computer running smoothly for 4 months or so. It suddenly reboots randomly. Begins to do this more frequently. Windows error log reads "kernel power error 41 (63)". Eventually it stops posting... Fans spin, less come on (with the exception of the video card) and monitor goes to sleep doesn't detect PC is on at all.
I opened the case to look for errors. My motherboard has a large greasy stain near the capacitors and the stain has leaked into my video card slot.
I don't have any way to test my components. I send the mobo and video card in for an rma. Should I also send in psu and CPU?
Also, this is my first PC build. Did I buy the right shit... Should I replace the psu with a higher quality one? Cooler master seems to be a good brand right? Do you think it was the mobo that fucked up? Should I bother sending in CPU for an rma? How can I prevent this from happening again?
Its hard to not be down on yourself when something lime this happens, I am disappointed in myself I feel like I fucked up... It seemed to be fine and was working great until this happened.. Now I feel like ill constantly be worried it'll happen again as the problem came so suddenly and without warning.
>>55085555
>running smoothly for 4 months or so. It suddenly reboots randomly
summer is very near, temps rise, stuff either throttles, trips the watchdog or plain crashes
>large greasy stain near the capacitors
so leaked/busted cap(s)? rma if its under warranty, replace caps yourself if its not
>g650m
thats plenty of juice for the system, no worries there
also

Busted cap isn't your fault
Just RMA
>>55085636
Yeah Texas summer... I have 7 fans in my machine. CPU, 2 on gpu, 4 case fans. Two front mounted intakes, one in back for outtake, one mounted on top also outtake
Sorry for wasted quads thought only b cared about that shit.
CPU seems fine its not burned or anything just don't know if its worth rma'ing. Everything under warrant, fortunately.
