Why aren't you using WayLand /g/?
>>55085206
No guide to installing from source or binary install in Ubuntu that I can find that's reliable.
>>55085206
>WayLand
are you retarded?
>>55085237
When i installed Debian it came with GNOME ootb.... Maybe try installing GNOME?
>update arch
>xorg breaks
Seriously?
For real, if it really happens, then I don't know why you guys use Arch. They have a great wiki, but I'd rather use Debian with a minimal net install and build a DE from there.
2 times I updated Fedora and something serious broke requiring a reinstall.
Nowadays I only update every few months
>>55085196
>Mom I can't use Arch but I want to look cool in /g/

>spend 2 hours installing nvidia driver

>spend another hour installing the driver in a different way

>break everything again trying to get steam to work

Systemd, ancient packages in "stable" and bleeding edge packages elsewhere, and a bureaucracy that would make the people in that Futurama episode impressed.
Great as a base for other things, weak on its own.

Claims to be a normie but calls it gnu/linux (yeah sure).
>>have to install software from source
Not using the package manager.
>>ooops, followed the instructions and it compiled without qt!
Compiled from source without a frontend...
>>have to use program from command line with no frontend
and then complains there is no frontend.
>>there is no config file to change controls in
I'm glad you are having issues.
just bought this shit, how badly did I fuck up?

What the fuck blackplayer? 40%? What in the holy hell? How do i fix this?
>>55084980
By using another mp3 player.
Is this /g/-technology illiteracy now?

>>55084980
I would assume by not using BlackPlayer.
I don't know though, I'm not an expert.
I dont usually post on this board, but here goes. im looking for something i can put on my phone, a samsung s4 mini, that will enable to me access it remotely from my computer. i need something that can access messages, apps, and my picture gallery. price isnt a concern here.
Doesn't exist

I know it's massively overkill for me. I mostly code websites and apps and do a decent amount of video encoding as well as a lot of mySQL work. The only games I play are Witcher 3, Diablo 3, and Overwatch. The idea of this thread is to get a general consensus of what a user such as myself, who does a little bit of everything, really needs. Stock photo of the case I use
>>55084897
should be fine
You could alternatively get a smaller SSD for OS only and mechanical for storage
What resolution are you gaming at?
>>55084925
I have a dual monitor setup 1920x1080 on the side and I do mostly everything on my 2560x1080 ultrawide. The side monitor usually just runs putty windows so I can get quick status updates when I'm pushing changes to servers
>>55084925
I use the SSD as a main because I'm lazy with personal file management and don't like to move things to my NAS as they accumulate on my drive

These guys just saved my bacon about a half hour ago because I did something idiotic. And let's face it: no matter how careful we are we always have a glorious absence of sound judgement. So let's take a moment and thank the authors of our choice antivirus/antimalware programs.

I going planning to get an msi gaming laptop, but I've seen some reviews saying about the noisy fan, is there any quiet models or is there a way to stop the loud fan
>>55084763
Yes. Smash it with this.
>>55084763
I currently own an MSI GE72 Apache 2QD; it is quite loud but I mainly use an extremely quiet laptop fan
actually msi and asus (my personal fav) are tied for most quiet of all true gaming laptops. By true i mean all the ones with a decent cooling solution on the back.
The ultra thin shit cant cool properly so they are clocked real slow or just throttle a shit load to compensate bad thermals.
However, if you buy a msi laptop with 980 desktop or something of the kind, expect some loudiness for fans to cope with a non mobile card generating lots of heat
What laptop would you get with $1400 USD?
>>55084634
