Wow!
At this rate I'm not sure what they're accomplishing. Chasing behind Ubuntu LTS is a pretty lame game plan when 16.04 is just as usable for a newcomer. This only ever needed to be a DE project.
sup /g/ents.
What are some good resources for python?
Some decent tutorials and lessons?
I've done some searches, but I am using py3 and most are written for py2 with a great deal of frustration as syntax has been changed.
Thanks...

Mark Lutzs 'Learning Python' and 'Programing Python'
>>55087992
Just code monkey around, you won't make anything decent with python anyway
Wait. Did you just buy an ide for a language you don't know?

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:
0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls...

Manjaro Linux is my fav.
Just installed Debian 8 XFCE
How do I make the login screen prefill my username instead of having to type it every time?
What's currently the best possible font rendering for a fresh Arch install? Vanilla freetype2, freetype2-ubuntu, or infinality-bundle?
Apparently some anon recently(?) made a convincing argument for why Arch is better than Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I advised to search the archives for this but couldn't find it, can somebody fill me in?
Not trying to start a war, I'm genuinely curious about what was said.
Who cares?
No, really, who cares.
When you remove the bragging rights and elitism of how customised your OS is, what you're left with is a computer that you do your daily tasks on.
Does it work? Can you do what you want to do? Perfect, then why care what someone else thinks.
>>55087439
Yes fair enough, but I can still be curious. Mostly I don't understand why so many /g/ays have been ragging on 16.04? Apparently it's shit, somehow, but it's given me no problems at all. I'm not considering switching to Arch, I'm just curious George.
Why would ubuntu be better? Filled with proprietary shit and it has a shitty package manager.
No proper AMD drivers.
what is this type of CRT called? it's not drawing using scanlines, is it a vector display?
>>55087303
Vector display with a special stencil inside for masking out letters and digits. (The electron beam can optionally be guided through the correct character on the stencil before being sent to the screen.)

AMD will release their cards soon, and when they do, they will be treated the same way. It is possible that there will be no nVidia cards in the $250-$150 range.

Also pls no bully on webdevs pls. Im not autistic and can sell people shit so I feel im about to be making some fucking bank. I know what im doing is gay.
The market for freelance webdev is extremely saturated and you will get your fair share of clients who will outright refuse to pay you.
And they know you won't pursue legal action because lost wages and legal fees would quickly cost more than what they owed you.
You should know what you're getting into.

My dad's a lawyer and has given my Aunt free help when it happened to her, which was only twice in the last 5 years shes been doing this shit

Is Go (golang) worth learning?
What are the pros and cons?
>pros
native networking built in
>cons
all the cons of C, with none of the benefits
Is the fact that it is so new going to cause any problems learning/using it?
>>55085807
yes, very few people will actually advocate Go because it's too different from C and offers no real benefits over C.
Also, a proper Go book (written by the same guy who wrote the definitive C book) was only published this year.
Not even google uses it in their production systems.
who here is the least gentile? I reckon it's me. I haven't bought a single computer part, laptop, phone, watch, laptop or anything since 2013. i've bought a gopro black edition but that's it.
>>55085369
I haven't bought a computer part in as long as I remember because I just take them from work and if they're ever being looked for (almost never) I just put them back.

good for you?
Why did you feel this needed a thread?

What's the most obscure programming language you've ever made something in?
Pic related, a remnant of a distant past.
>>55081955
I'll take your bait.
Lua's pretty popular since it's easy to embed (which formerly used to be Tcl's place), and it's used in popular games like Garry's Mod, and even in the reverse-engineered server for Final Fantasy 11.
It's also even used in NetBSD's kernel, as weird as that sounds https://www.netbsd.org/gallery/presentations/mbalmer/fosdem2012/kernel_mode_lua.pdf
>>55081955
I love the syntax of lua. It's like the best of both worlds of javascript and python.
But to answer the question I haven't used many so maybe batch, that's pretty horrible.
>>55081955
Used that in mine craft computercraft mod
