Serious question for /g/, pertaining to the culture of /g/. It will take some explaining, so bear with me.
I've been visiting 4chan about six years, mostly as a /b/tard, but I get involved with other boards as well.
I frequented /g/ quite a lot over the years, because while I'm reasonably tech-savvy, I'm not a coder or a builder or a CS student or anything like that, yet these elements have always been in the background of my life.
So about two weeks ago I get a free PC, not new, not ancient, and install Mint MATE on it, so I can have a dedicated GNU desktop so that I can envelop myself in Linux and git gud. Lacking any formal training, that's the only way I have learned about systems, by just using them and solving problems as they arise.
So these last two weeks I have been visiting /g/ every day, mostly just to use the wiki, but I browse through the posts on my way through.
Is it just me, or do I notice a definite change in this board from even a few months ago? I mean the Friendly Linux Thread is good, but there's just something else wrong with this board compared to the way I remember it as a casual lurker.
I used to be SCARED to post my tech-help problems, lest I be b&. Now there are tons of faggots making "help me" threads with apparent immunity. (Whatever happened to lurk moar and fgi?) Even three months ago, I would never have created a thread about /g/ culture.
And all this shit about Windows being superior to Linux? When did that start? I happen to think Windows 10 is fine, I've got 2 machines running it, I think "don't upgrade" is a meme, but who cares? Use whatever windows you want. Windows is not better than Linux, however, because they serve different functions. (Disclaimer: I also think free software will triumph.)
tl;dr I'm annoyed that /g/ isn't as good as it was very recently.

Why is Android so slow compared to WP and iOS?
Every Android phone out there needs at least 2gb of ram, 3gb is preferable, paired with some 8 core overheating snapdragon pantsfire processor to just run the UI smoothly.
Yet almost all iPhones and Windows Phones out there have only 1gb of ram and they don't seem to lag or anything.
My last phone was a Moto G (snapdragon 400 - 1gb ram) and it was rendered totally worthless by the Android 5.0 update. If Nova launcher was active it wouldn't have enough ram available to do anything worthwhile, apps would just close down and everything had a 1 second delay.
Yet yesterday I installed Windows 10 mobile on my Lumia 735 (snapdragon 400 - 1gb ram) so the exact same phone, and it's still silky smooth.
And the iPhone 4s I gave my girlfriend is also still going strong. Imagine using a 512mb ram Android, I don't think it can even boot up.
Why does Android require so much resources as compared to WP and iOS?

My younger brother just bought himself the Galasy S5. It has 2gb ram and one of the best processors around, yet when I had to use it yesterday it felt very clunky and laggy.
Yes, I know he should uninstall touchwizz, get some 3rd party ROM and whatnot. But why shouldn't phones runs mooth by default? You should not have to spend hours trying to make a finished product actually work.

I like Windows 10 but I tried out Ubuntu for the first time a few days ago and something has been driving me insane since.
Why is Windows font rendering so awful? Especially in the modern/universal applications, which are being pushed as the default thing now. So, is it possible to fix the fonts or should I install Ubuntu and try move over?

Unfortunately you can't change the font rendering for anything "new" (metro apps, menus and the new settings panel).
Anything else, either MacType or gdipp. gdipp is older but has no problems with kerning on non-hDPI displays. MacType still receives a few updates but it's better to use it with anything above 1080p.
You can fix it on Windows 7 :^)

Maybe Oculus did all the heavy lifting and made it public in techtalks and then Vive just stood on their shoulders, but had the benefit of knowing about all Oculus's mistakes and not being locked in to any bad designs/deals/suppliers.
Oculus was a scamstarter campaign, HTC already had real people with skills and actual production capability.
Maybe they are both off the shelf OEM hardware hacked togeather and the time is right for VR.

So I just updated my Lumia 735 to Windows 10 mobile.
I didn't expect much of it since I heard there were plenty of bugs and it lagged on older phones (1gb - snapdragon 400) but so far it's actually quite good.
No lag, no bugs encountered so far, everything looks better and all my apps(all 5 of 'em) still work. Probably my first mobile update without any trouble whatsoever.
Has anyone else here installed Windows10 mobile?
And is there any future left for Windows 10 mobile? I heard most the staff for the mobile team has been fired, HERE maps (GOAT tier app, #1 reason I ever picked WP) will pull support from W10 and other shitty news like that.
