How long until Microsoft/Google/Apple implement mandatory apps stores on desktop OSs?
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Microsoft will never lock you to a store. There's just too much business software out there to even think of managing it.
Linux cucks are already utterly reliant on their repos, but since Linux only has like 3 working pieces of software, it's not like it matters.
>>
>>51905368
Any company that wants to provide proprietary software on linux can host their own repos and have their users download the newest binaries from their package manager automatically.
Google does this for google-chrome.

does anyone here actually understand the internet, and could maybe shed light on this?

Weev thinks the US can fuck ISIS by the US government forcing ISPs to announce bullshit routes. The counter argument seems to be that ISPs outside the US will just start blocking announcements from US ISPs.
Weev seems to argue back, that's not feasible for them to do.

what say you?

The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

There's no easy way to remove internet access to an entire region Trump is just pandering.

They offer paid VPN services, but the extension itself (adblocker+privacy protector) is completley free. I declare uBlock and uBlock Origin officially dead.

If there's anything the Snowden revelations have taught us, it's that every OS from Linux to OSX to Android all havebackdoors.

Why do people still act like using Linux or OSX will offer them protection when it's filled with more holes than a block of Swiss cheese. There are forums online where you can get access to the latest exploits weeks or months before they are patched.

My friend is looking for an encrypted harddrive to hold government secrets on. So it has to be NSA proof. Now that truecypt is dead and bitlocker is owned by MS who is owned by the federal government he is looking to buy an encrypted device.

can anyone suggest some good ones? right now he is looking at

http://www.ironkey.com/en-US/encrypted-storage-drives/h100.html

and

http://datalocker.com/

the data locker ones look like bull shit because they use a four digit code. that can be brute forced in like 5 min...? thanks

only use physical transfer like a USB to fill the device then bury it in the fucking desert and burn the USB. tada hidden stuff forever

use regular hardware and encrypt the files
>>

He should be using dmcrypt-LUKS for that kind of thing. It's Linux only, but if you are talking about stuff that dirty, it is the only option.

If you have data that sensitive, it should never be handled with proprietary software, ever, and dmcrypt is currently the most trusted encryption software out there.

That's because technological advancements are no longer made to benefit people, but to marginalize those people and reduce their entire existence to nothing more than data points in a database to sort through.

>starts talking about some Dell for $200-something
>ok, that's cool. Other guys a normie, he doesn't need much.
>starts talking about his new "build"
>"yeah, I'm gonna put 64gb ddr4 RAM in it, and an i7"
>ask him what the hell he plans to do with 64gb RAM
>"programming"
>mfw

He went on to talk out his ass for a few minutes about am unspecified "Ray-don" graphics card, getting 4 monitors, how he does "programming maintenence" for the local PD, and how his current PC (apparently a Dell all in one) is slow, because he has a "bigass 23" monitor"

By that point, it was pretty obvious he was a normie posing as a tech savvy guy. I just made him feel inadequate, by asking some basic questions that he couldn't answer about the components in his current PC and upcoming build, and went on for a bit about Bulldozer vs Sandy bridge in terms of IPC, and asked his thoughts on Zen. Needless to say, he got pretty quiet.

I would've called him out, but I figured this way, he'd be a little humbled and maybe go home and do some actual research, or maybe I could even take him under my wing and introduce him to the hobby.

Anyone else had encounters, such as this?

I have issues like this quite often around customers and even my coworkers but, I have realize it gets me absolutely no where to call people out.

It kinda reversed humbled me, if you will. Needless to say, I just play dumb to stuff now. It's better actually because then if someone actively asks me a question, its more satisfying to have it out of absolutely no where.

I avoid people and being personable that way as much as I can even though I'm in a customer service oriented job.

after I made him look like an unknowledgeable normie in front of some other guy I don't even know, he proceeded to go home and have actual sex with his girlfriend, whilst I went home and played with my new bulldozer processor. life is soo sweet.

Why? It reminds me of how people keep pirating music when spotify and pandora exist: there literally is no reason to pirate anymore.

So why aren't you anons using amazon underground? I rarely see anyone talk about it.

>The researchers, Hector Marco and Ismael Ripoll from the Cybersecurity Group at Polytechnic University of Valencia, found that it’s possible to bypass all security of a locked-down Linux machine by exploiting a bug in the Grub2 bootloader. Essentially, hitting backspace 28 times when the machine asks for your username accesses the “Grub rescue shell,” and once there, you can access the computer’s data or install malware.
