Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", lightweight
----
No news.
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>They’re really cheap when you buy a used one.
>Keyboards feel excellent while typing (yes, even the newer ones).
>Great durability thanks to the inclusion of rollcages and use of glass fiber reinforced plastic for the chassis. The keyboard is splash proof and spilled liquids will drain out.
>Utilitarian design - e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking solutions that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for almost every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing on the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Reminder that if you are using an SSD as your system disk you basically a brain dead retard that should be removed from the genepool.

SSDs degrade over time based on the number of writes, so having your SSD as your system drive, which is constantly having date overwritten on it, will mean it will burn through its lifecycle pretty quickly.

>Waahwaah but muh booting times
Kill yourself. Getting 20 seconds every time you boot up, which is about 2 to 3 times a day is not worth the price of having your SSD bricked like 10 times faster.

Don't even try to argue with me on this unless you want to look like a fucking mouth breather on the internet.

Someone's heated. Who the fuck cares anyway? Why are you using these drives for like forty fucking years?
Minimize the amount of files that are important to you forever and keep them on multiple cds and feel the comfort of nothing you do to your drive really mattering.
