>staff may pretend to be normal users asking for invites and when you invite them, they ban you for inviting strangers
>sneaky bastards will try to convince you into believing that cheating can be evaded, it can't and you will be banned with those bastards laughing at you
>people may report emails and other personal info posted here to staff to get you banned
>most of the invite offers here are people trolling you with false hope - begging for invites is a waste of time and you should just interview at What.cd

I want to chat with people who say they are having a hard time finding work. Be it dev, ops or sysadmin. I want to hear about experiences they have had with interviews.

At the company I work for we are scraping the bottom of the barrel and still can't find enough people. Can anyone explain this to me?

All that matters is location anymore. Good programmers in "flyover country" can't get jobs, whereas shitty programmers in Silicon Valley bring everyone else down but have to be hired because there's no choice.

Early computers didn't have any bitwise operations.

Mathematicians in the 1950s wanted parallel (all bits of a word) boolean operations included in CPUs to do be able to work with sets.

Modern CS teaches that "bit diddling" is a low level hardware concept that has nothing to do with math.

How did this loss of knowledge happen?

Still deciding what I want to do with it, it's unfinished atm. The dock swipes left and right for social media and banking / amazon / ebay etc, swipe up brings up app drawer and swipe down is notif bar. Tried the "remove notification bar" meme and replaced it with a zooper widget, had incorrect battery life, used more ram and was just shitty to look at in general. Not doing that again

Asking "Hey guys, what's your opinion on x?" is frowned upon.
Wireless is frowned upon.
Headset requests are frowned upon.
Noise isolation ? Noise cancellation
If you dislike a suggestion, try giving a better suggestion to whomever asked instead of going "hurr, x sucks"

Why do people think anyone believes this horse shit?

An article in my local newspaper today said the best computer in the University of Kentucky in 1977 was still using punch cards and paper readouts.

No, it most definitely fucking did not. I can't tell you exactly what they would have had but it definitely had at least a monitor. The damned Apple II and Commodore PET were out back then. A big university would have something far more bad-ass.

Anybody else sick of people saying these kinds of anachronisms or historical revisions to make it seem like technology used to suck more than it did?

This one developer a few months ago made a genius program to allow iMessage to run on Android devices, using a Mac's public IP, and a few other things. The catch is, you'll need to have your Mac/Macbook on & running 24/7 for it to work. If you turn off the Mac, the app will cease to work.

Here's the project link, its still a very early Alpha: https://github.com/bboyairwreck/PieMessage

Does anyone think its possible to buy/host a server to use to connect this app to?

I've been having trouble finding a job and I've turned my search to IT, and most everything requires CompTIA A+ certification. When I was at a tech school a few years ago (around 2011-2012), I decided not to go for the certification because I didn't have the money then. I've still got my books from then so I can study that, but what all should I study that's new if I want to get certified? Does anyone know of any good resources if you're only going after an A+ certification?

I don't really care. I just need a job. I have a film degree which would have worked out great if North Carolina didn't cut all film funding and every production left the state for good. shit sucks. I just need a job, I really don't care if I'm just fixing shit or hooking up printers.
