manjaro, amazing repo, awesome support. Simple installer software. Community support. Arch for lazy people. Distros are all different though. It all boils down to your personal opinion. Install a VM and try all Desktop distros. Ubuntu, Manjaro, fedora, mint, etc.

Not OP, but I'd rather use the HD 530 due to the sweet linux drivers for comfy desktop work. AMD's are shit and NVidia's proprietary shit needs a kernel module, creating headaches when swapping out custom kernels for development/fun.
Intel's just werk.
OP, I'd be interested in seeing how memory overclocks improve the iGPU as it uses the system memory. I've got an i7-6700 on the way and I'll see what difference enabling XMP will do...
No, overclocking the CPU will actually give you worse iGPU performance. However, the Z170 chipset allows you to overclock the iGPU itself, separately from the CPU.

The 280x is based off of the GOAT 7970, the 380x is based on the 285 with a lower memory bus.
trying to save smartphone battery life on train/bus commute. would like to stay smaller than (2) AA built-in speaker type radios.
I had pic related when I was a kid. It got good reception and lasted basically forever on one AAA battery. Not exactly a thin device, though.
Alternatively, get a phone with a proper battery and a built in fm radio. My Redmi 3 lasts about two days with average use.

For someone who no longer has the time to keep up with what's best, what's broken, what's a fad, etc... but still has "known how"... I find myself missing the old NewEgg. No one used it but geeks in the early days, so you'd have really good reviews... no 5 star reviews just because it worked, or 1 star reviews just because they accidentally bought an incompatible item. Amazon seems fairly useless for this reason... Where do you go these days when searching for which brands/models of whatever given piece of hardware you should buy?

my pc is i5 4690 with an aftermarket cooler, 16gb ram, and a 760 4gb card. my idling temperatures are 30-40 depending on what bullshit i might be looking at. when gaming however my cpu will go to around 55 and my graphics card will go anywhere from 55 to 70, the 70 being on games such as bf4. large maps and such. my question is for the graphics card. would it be worth upgrading to the 960 with the acx 2 cooler for better card temperatures. its strange i know but i feel more comfortable the cooler my computer runs. i have two intake in the front, an intake on the side, 1 exhaust out the back and 2 exhausts on the top. any help will be appreciated, thank you.

appreciate the quick response. have corsair for all case fans. both air flow and static pressure in the correct spots. have also re applied thermal paste using arctic mx4. biggest question is would the temps be lower with the different card? different cooling seeing as how with mine there is a flaw where a heatpipe doesnt have perfect contact. also a card that might have to work less? im nowhere near as wise as you scholars, i just appreciate the advice.
