How are there so many GPU threads? Comparing benchmarks can only be so entertaining.
A perfectly fine thread got kicked off to the archive for this garbage.
Is OpenGL dead? Will there be a mid-level C-based framework to replace it?

At first the lack of GUI can be disturbing, but you get used to it soon.
i've already been thinking of returning my 1080 for a 480 and this bench encourages me even more.
dual 480's in cf come out cheaper than a 1080 and rapes the 1080 hard.
also it does appear that pascal does indeed have async improvements. pascal actually receives a boost in performance. while maxwell clearly doesn't benefit. it either gains no boost or has a slight decrease.

As a current nvidia user I agree with this on all fronts other than power consumption, but I'm stuck with an oc'ed gt 730 right now so the performance difference makes up for that.

How do you guys go about debugging code? I learned how to program with VC++ and it had a very useful, powerful debugger. Later on I learned C and now I just use printing functions even when using huge IDEs. I think it's a bad habit but I'm just used to it.

Not a bad habit so far as I'm concerned. It's an excellent way to debug. Hell, I say you're an idiot if you're trying to make something work and you don't do this.
Probably a mixture of print statements, using step-into, break points and looking at the variables in memory at the point in question.

Help me out with some purchase advice lads.
I want a new laptop for media consumption. The only essential criteria is that it has a good quality 1080p display*. So what is the cheapest laptop with a good quality 1080p display?
*by good quality, I mean respectable contrast, colors and black depth. I can't handle owning another laptop with a bottom-of-the-barrel 1366x768 display that's physically uncomfortable to look at because the "blacks" are cloudy blue-grey and the contrast ratio is in the single digits.
