Please tell me this is a prank.

Windows 7 forever :)!

Not going to pay for Windows 10 :)!
>>
>>55591266
It's for the Enterprise version. Don't panic.
>>
>$7 per user per month
No company is going to do this when they can buy Windows 7 Enterprise and call it done.

After Windows 7 is EOL, I can see a large number of companies moving to Mac.

What makes Linux so terrible at running games and Photoshop?

The problem is that you're trying to run programs on an operating system the developers didn't intend for them to be ran on.

Software explicitly developed for Linux works just fine.
>>
Since nobody uses Linux outside internet servers and as headless rendering machines, nobody is going to make software for it, thus nobody uses Linux.

Does Linux really count as a UNIX?
49 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
Nope, it's not certified to be one.
>>
>>55591188
Not in the strict sense, but we can call Linux a Unix like OS aka *nix.
>>
>>55591354
OS X is actually certified.

About ready to quit my job. Jr sys admin for a userbase of about 3k. I wanna do project management or something, I dunno. Once i started diving into powershell and automation my soul died. I got into this field because I liked working with my hands.

I think I need to get out of IT bros.

Can someone explain in layman terms, in a few sentences, how is it possible that webm has better quality than gif, while having a smaller file size?

Is it simply that the inventor of webm discovered a better mathematical method for encoding data in a smaller space?

(If yes, can this method be used to make a "new" and better .jpg?)

>>55591130
WebM uses video technologies to represent the same amount of video information in a smaller space.

Basically, imagine a video of a ball rolling. A GIF would have every single frame saved as a separate image, while WebM would only update the changed area every frame.

This is a massive simplification of the process, but you get the general idea.
>>
>>55591130
webm is a video format, not image.

Most programming these days is code monkey work, you're right for the most part. I taught myself, went to a cheap ass college so I can write down on my resume I have a fancy piece of paper so I can get jobs. Easily learned more about programming in a year of working on my own than multiple years of school.

>he creates "backups" on a cheap external hd or "the cloud" instead of having a raid system
28 posts and 2 images submitted.

I am developing a cloud storage thing using ssh, unison (rsync, but better) and watchdog (uses the best filewatching protocol for whatever OS you're on) that does regular backups to an external HDD. You can use it with RAID.

>Backups

Why would I backup animu? Of course I run a massive RAID6.
>>
>>55590414
A system that's always connected, or even worse always synced, is not a proper backup.
