With serial ports and shit, it would replace old lab computers and sht.

Can we have a thread for the smart computers of yesteryear? I want to talk about Pocket PC, PDAs, basically anything from before the iPhone turned all pocket devices into toys and fashion items.

This happens with any device. Flash storage degrades, RAM requirements increase, and they seem to put smaller and smaller batteries making them shit.

Hey, /g/ my old R9 290 is failing so I want to upgrade. I sort of want to just buy a 1070 but I have a 1440p 144hz monitor w/freesync.
I was going to just buy the 1070 or 1080 and say fuck the Freesync but then I saw the benchmarks for Vulkan.
So which should I do?

1. Buy a quality 1070/1080 now
2. Recieve the benefit of Freesync and increasing vulkan performance with a RX 480 and selling once Vega releases

>>
>>55580032
well you already have freesync so go with amd.
if you didn't, i'd go with a 1070

Obviously get a 1080, vulkan won't be widely used for a long while

Question about the Samsung Gear VR - I downloaded a 360 degree movie onto my SD card, but when I play it with Oculus Video is actually displays as two cupped images with black space like this in the Gear, instead of putting one in each eye.

Essentially as if I'm just watching it on a normal monitor.

Am I missing something obvious?

Try Var's VR video player

Also, maybe the video you downloaded is the wrong style/format/orientation.

Xna is no longer developed by microsoft.

Instead you should learn monogame, which is very similar to xna, is currently supported and actively developed, and is multi platform. I'm working on a win/linux/mac game right now using monogame.

Use vs2015 community on win, and monodevelop on linux/mac. C# is a great language to work with and its quick to develop in. A bunch of fags will praise gamedev with c or c++, but its really not necessary unless your pushing the hardware to its limits. Also, c/c++ dev is slow and error prone.
>>
Fair enough. What about Unity though, I heard it's the shit right now, am I supposed to learn that too?
Also are there any resources that walk you through Monogame, possibly treating you like a 5 year old in the process?
>>
>>55579943
Reimers xna tutorials work for monogame. Just mix and match xna / monogame tutorials.

Fuck. Unity. Seriously. Unity forces you to use their retarded approach to game engines, doesnt allow you to do it your way, and punishes you for using a different design paradigm.

If you want to learn, do it on your own, your way, following tutorials. Start with the msdn screen manager tutorial to understand how to manage game state + screens. Make sure you know how to print to the console so you can debug basic shit, and then just build games. Try and fail alot, and learn. Its really fun.

Fingerprinting is the newest way of tracking you across websites.
It's being done right now by companies like Google.
Because unlike cookie based tracking you can't defeat it just by disabling cookies.
There is currently NO FOOLPROOF DEFENCE against fingerprinting (except quitting the Internet).

Google's privacy policy states
>Other technologies are used for similar purposes as a cookie on other platforms where cookies are not available or applicable
https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/key-terms/#toc-terms-cookie

ReCAPTCHA probably contains fingerprinting code:
https://archive.is/9K5gs
This means that the majority of 4chan users could be being fingerprinted, and Google might know about your shitposting habits even if cookies are disabled.

Google releases limited hangout of how much they know about you:
https://news.slashdot.org/story/16/06/29/2038257/googles-my-activity-reveals-how-much-it-knows-about-you
>Oh, they're just remembering what YouTube videos I watched, nothing creepy about that, I already knew they were doing it!
>I guess all those people who fear tracking really are just conspiracy theorists!

Daily reminder to do all your Amazon / eBay / LinkedIn / botnet shit in a completely separate browser to your Googling or buying shit.
It's currently the ONLY way to truly defend against fingerprint tracking.
Double points if you have each browser running in a different VM with a different OS.
Triple points if you have each browser's VM configured with a different VPN connection.
