Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try Linux, you can:

1) Install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full Linux experience".
3) Dual-boot Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about Linux)
4) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with Linux (not recommended)

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe wine can make up for it.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/28/10864034/windows-phone-is-dead

>Microsoft only sold 4.5 million Lumia devices in the recent quarter, compared to 10.5 million at the same time last year. That's a massive 57 percent drop. Even a 57 percent increase wouldn't be enough to save Windows Phone right now. Microsoft and Nokia have sold a total of 110 million Windows Phones compared to 4.5 billion iOS and Android phones in the same period. IDC recently reported that 400 million phones were sold in the recent quarter, meaning just 1.1 percent of them were Lumia Windows Phones.

...thoughts?

So basically Windows phone is a non-competitor now, going the way of Blackberry Mobile and other failed mobile OS'. Now there exists only Android and iOS.

Is it really OK that we only have two viable mobile phone operating systems to choose from?

How do you feel about this, especially current Windows Phone users?

Surface phone will be shit because it's going to be a phablet and it probably won't run actual Windows 10. Also will prob cost $1000
>>
>>52693040
I'm not sure Windows Phone as an entire platform is dead, but I can see the Lumia being killed in favor of a surface phone or something.

Unless Microsoft managed to strike a deal with OEM's to put Windows on their devices.

I'd love to own a Samsung Note with Windows on it, but for now I'll have to settle for my Lumia 1520.

I've been on the go a lot recently and haven't been able to shitpost as much, so I was wondering what would be a good device to shitpost from on the go that wouldn't weigh a lot or take up much space yet still be comfy to use.

Phones really aren't comfy for shitposting though, as it takes a long time to type out a post and god help you if you try to quote multiple people. There's also the problem of it regularly refreshing pages when you go between tabs so you have to find the last post you read.

what are some small and practical layouts?

My first mech was a quickfire TK because I wanted to smaller keyboard without sacrificing the numpad.
I think it's fantastic and but im thinking of using the TK in the office (they're brown siwtches)
and getting a smaller compact keyboard for home usage (blues of course)

I dont use the numpad at home at all, even when gaming, but I do have various macros assgined to the function keys

what is the smallest keyboard with function keys and arrow keys?

i do not need the numpad or the delete/insert keys

Sorry to whoever usually starts the new threads, I acquired something new and wanted to share it at the top of the thread because it is pretty special. My grandfather passed away some years back, and had this watch my dad bought for him at a shop that was dear to my grandfather back in NYC. It was given to me, and I am going to replace the battery and see if I can locate a replacement band or missing links for this. Looking around online, I haven't seen one cheaper than about $1,500USD.
This is a Bulova Accutron Spaceview (model 214.) My dad said back in the day, if you had an Accutron, people were like "oh shit." This is a very interesting watch with a lot of history. I am still learning more about this, reading about it and such.

This is my butchered understanding of how it works: On each kip of the tuning fork inside, there is a miniature electromagnetic solenoid (coils of wire hooked to battery), which vibrate the tuning fork at a certain frequency. The vibration of the tuning fork turns the gears of the mechanism, which moves the hands on the watch to keep time. If you google image search Boluva Accutron Spaceview it returns a lot of very cool pictures and different models. This watch came out in 1970, and my dad bought this one in about 1972. Posting a few pictures below.
