Sup /g/. I don't know if this is the right place for these questions and I'm sure I'll sound like an idiot since I don't understand the technology of this subject too well, but I wanted to talk about robotic prosthesis.

I've read in several places my whole life that "mind controlled" robotic limbs were in development/use, and I was under the impression that this meant that through some neural implant, electrical signals in the brain were transferred to a robotic prosthetic and basically it was as natural and immediate and smooth as moving a real limb since it was the same neural signals being sent, just instead of going to muscle it goes to motors and stuff.

However, I've recently been told by my medical school friend that almost all robotic limbs labelled "mind-controlled" are in fact controlled by electrodes which sit on the surface of the skin and active the prosthetic whenever the muscle they sit on twitches or flexes. He also said since the user had to think about what muscles to flex, then flex it, then wait for the controller to recognize it there was actually quite a bit of lag in these robotic limbs, and they could never be as fluid, or natural, or immediate as a real limb. Is this all true?

Since I can't find a lot of good information that I can understand on google, I just wanted to know if /g/ could provide some clarity on this subject. What are the different methods for robotic control of prosthesis? Can robotic prosthesis be truly controlled just by thought? Do they use neural implants/some kind of muscle implant for prosthesis? What are they pros and cons of the different methods? Is there lag in robotic limbs? Can they ever be as natural and seamless as a real limb? How much do they weigh? How long can they hold a charge?

Help please /g/, I'm absolutely fascinated by this subject and would like to learn as much as I can.

Hi /g/. I have a side-firing subwoofer (pic related, nearly the exact same, same design) and I was wondering if it's completely safe to tip it in order to have it down-firing. It would be about 10cm to the floor (it has a grille over it anyways).
Anyone can help me here?

On the subwoofer side of things, yes.

However, make sure it's just a passive (speaker wire only) to the sub, if it's an active sub (has it's own power cable and takes line-level audio because it's self amplified) then you need to ensure you're compromising the ability of the built in amp to keep itself cool.

Let me try this again...

My setup is nearly the same as that one-just bigger speakers.
Yeah it's only passive, just the cables.
Was thinking of moving it as it's aiming at the wall and I've had a noise complaint, and I know the people downstairs don't give a shit.
So I was wondering if it's safe, knowing that down-fired are made to work with gravity, while side-fired have to work against it, so if it would be safe for the magnet/speaker/cone

Anyone played Hacknet? It's a very accurate representation of 1337 haxxing, it's very addictive. >Get mission to delete a database file from a rival haxxor's server
>break open 3 ports with my 1337 hax tools, >break through the proxy by flooding it with my botnet of shells
>analyze the firewall and pluck the password and solve it
>delete database
???
>haxxor emails and says "gg im deleting ur x-server"
>oh fuck, no graphics
>boot up, scan my network, find a surrounding linux pc, break into it, download it's x-server, using nothing but terminal and cd, ls, scan, connect etc
>reboot with x-server back

How does one virtualize an exclusively 32 bit windows app and enables it to run on a 64 bit system? I've tried VMWare Thinapp (with the wow64=0 option), compatibility patches and it still won't work. Apparently the problem is that the executables are located in the C:\Windows folder. Is there a way to make the application work from some other folder? I'm thinking hex editing, etc.

Capture it in a 64-bit os?

Try spoon studio?

Is anyone aware of a way to get free cell phone service through some sort of hack or something? I heard stories but never seen the real deal.

It's bullshit. You can probably get free VOIP service but you'll still have to pay for a data plan.
>>
>>52645738
No, and if something of the sort comes up, it'll be slow, crap, and likely ad supported.

If you're in the US, depending on state there are some plans where you can get a cellphone through medicaid if you are sufficiently poor and disabled. It's free but it's a basic thing that just has voice and SMS, and comes with something like 200 minutes per month.

You can get basic service pretty cheap on prepaid or pay-as-you-go plans depending on what you need. Both ways are no-contract, so all you have to do to cancel is quit paying. There are also no surprise charges since you pay for the service before you get it.

I just flashed my D-Link DIR-615-C1 router with OpenWRT.

I remove wpad-mini and installed hostapd. Why isn't WPA2-Enterprise showing up? DD-WRT supported it just fine. Is there something I'm missing?

This is very obvious, but have you tried rebooting OpenWRT. Pretty sure I had to do that to get hostapd working.

Here's a crazy idea.
Imagine if instead of me sending you a program, I instead send you an instruction file that you execute and your computer compiles locally.
The same can be for video images and songs too.
The file contains instructions of where all the bits, pixels and frequencies go, creating the file locally on your PC.

How does /g/ feel about these? I kinda want to get some but I think they look terrible but convenient. Are there any alternatives?

I've got the 730s and the 750s. They've held up well: we've had them for about 2 years now, I think. I wear them around the house for audiobooks and they are far superior to wired earbuds because you can do whatever without the wire hanging up on your clothes.

The bluetooth performance is the same for both models we have. They work fine with a Galaxy S4 but my Nexus 4 drops audio quite a bit--probably just a crap radio in my phone. The range is perhaps 15 feet through one stud wall.

I would definitely buy these again. The retractable cords are interesting although I wonder how durable they would be.
>>
>>52645083
They're not bad. I think I need to replace mine, but I sleep in the because reasons, and I tend to toss and turn a lot. I usually replace my LG's about every 6 - 12 months as needed.

For general use, they should be fine.
>>
Why not get bluetooth buds that dont have a big retarded and redundant neck collar thing. Theres plenty to choose from, I have these, they just have one slimple wire linking them together. They are great.
