I don't need a beast of a videocard. I'm considering the R7 360, or the 750ti.

Which one /g/? and which manufacturer?

just buy any of em it doesnt really matter.

Anything pre 2008 runs on cpu anyway.
>>
buy a used 660 or something
>>
>>52639210
The 750ti is slightly faster but the 360 is enough to play pretty much any game older than 2 years. I'd go with which ever is cheaper.

Don't you see what's happening? They're positioning themselves to be the utility company. As soon as they finish building their own iPhone exclusive low-cost cell phone carrier network, literally nothing will stop them from taking over the world and enslaving billions to iPhones forever.

So /g/, I was just curious and decided to look this up, 16 years ago in May, AMD stocks were $92, now 16 years later, it's $2. Someone tell me, what the fuck did AMD do wrong?

How can a company put themselves through so much pain and incompetence, they do so bad on the stock market?

AMD is basicaly like local opensource poorfags who shit around themselves and try to make excuse for every poor decision they make
>>
Dear Intel went out of their way to stop OEMs from buying AMD chips and thus killing their profits while they still had expensive fabs to maintain.

That's pretty much the gist of it.
>>
>>52639112
Intel fucked them with shady deals. They got busted for it, but the damage was already done.

i'd like to take this moment to shill Alpine Linux. it's small, easy to set up, and the wiki can get you started on what you want in less than an hour.

then i will proceed with samba?
>>

If your drives are all that old (do they even still make 160GB hard disks?), it seriously might not be a good idea. Traditional RAID doesn't work well with drives of different sizes. btrfs or ZFS can do it, but that's not really going to achieve what you wanted unless you set it up right.

I'd suggest instead grabbing two new drives, say, 4TB in size, you should comfortably fit everything on one of those, and RAID-1 mirror it (mdadm would be easiest). It'll save power compared to running 10 old drives, too.

Any Linux, whichever you find comfy and easy to run with minimal hassle for a long time (Debian 8.0 jessie?), and yes, samba should be alright, although can be a little tricky to set up properly (smbpasswd is generally the missing link in the config).

>>52639299
I'm curious about that one. Might try it out on a tiny VPS, it looks useful for that.

What's so bad about an iMac, /g/?

While I fully agree they're not made to work or game on, I do enjoy having one in the living room a lot. They are aesthetically pleasing, the screen is big, they're fast, dead silent, and you don't have to find a place to put some huge ass computer case with 300 wires going in and out in the room.

I love mine for selecting music to be played through the house, casual web browsing, and my girlfriend loves it because OS X is so easy to understand.

Is there any bad thing about it despite the price that I'm missing? I've had mine now for 6-7 years without noticing anything I miss. It's kinda getting slow now so I thought about getting a new one. Yes I use windows to work on, upstairs.

If they had useful shit as standard, like twice as many USB ports, 10gbe or more 1gbe and an adjustable height and swivel stand then they'd be useful if expensive. As is they're restrictive and way too expensive. Also their cooling system gets clogged up after a while, but that's standard fare for laptops.
>>
>>52638776
you're asking for a tablet, op
>>
>>52638776
You pretty much answered your own question

They're a nice thing to have, but they're not built for productivity, gaming, or customization. And they certainly aren't justified in the price.

Well the 750ti doesn't use any electricity, so if you still have a working psu, you don't need a new one if you're going with the 750ti.

So... Hi /g/. I've been using Gentoo GNU/Linux for ~8 years now, happily, but recently the laptop I used it on fucked up. I'm using a shitty netbook for now and, of course, I installed Gentoo... and it sucks. It's way too much time to get from a basic system to fully featured, and slow to compile. If I need to install a library, I want it NOW, not 1 hour from now.

So now I'm looking to switch. I like the bleeding edge Gentoo allows, massive customisation, and tiny base system. I tried FreeBSD and I like the mixture of source based and binary based, but it lacks the full support of the Linux kernel and software/support base.

Any suggestions or is FreeBSD my next best bet?
