basically to get you to use their services.
botnet is first, and foremost, an ad company. the more you use their services, the more likely you are to see their ads, so they make money. I honestly don't believe it's anything worse than that.
They want you to depend on them, use every service of them and definitely not one of their competitors.

You're pretty fucked and you need to reinstall windows 7... Literally the same exact thing happened to me, wouldn't let me reformat hard drioves even when booting from install disc. You'll need to format the drive through the command prompt. Google should help there
