First post of the thread is the best one as usual.
I was doing caffeine + theanine for about a year. It's great at first, especially for motivation, but eventually led to me be irritable a lot. I also got into a car accident that I think might not have happened otherwise (it wasn't serious).
Anyway I think it's good for occasional use but I wouldn't go back to hitting it daily. I find just exercise, good nutrition, and plenty of sleep are better, but i have a hard time sticking to even one of those 3.

I've saved enough on CPU's over the last 5+ years using AMD that I can easily justify to myself getting a nice 12 or 16 core Zen when it's finally out.
I am still holding out on a 4 core Phenom II while waiting for Zen. My bottleneck continues to be GPU not CPU. I just recently threw in a Nvidia 960 and am playing and developing games at 4k 60 FPS without issues.
If you're going budget build you might as well get most bang for your buck now and not bother getting more expensive low tier Intel parts you'll want to replace later anyway.
Intel switches sockets every year, it's not likely you'll be able to take advantage of an "upgrade path" anyway.
At least with AMD you're saving the money and know you'll have to switch everything out eventually for the Zen socket anyway.

V-shaped, a little too much bass for me, 9k peak kills you with 's' but it was an interesting experience. "Fun" sound? It's definitely different compared to the SE535.
