Will Virtual Reality just be a fad and die in 10 years, or will it somehow get a use outside of ">muh video games"?
My vote is that it's just going to be a fad.

Why would VR be limited to games? I want VR for anime and movies, but the resolution on current headsets isn't high enough.

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:
0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux
Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.
Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

# New & Revised /dpt/ Code of Conduct #
We want to ensure that the /dpt/ community, while large and diverse, remains
welcoming and respectful to all participants. To that end, we have a few
ground rules that we ask people to adhere to.
- *Be friendly and patient.*
- *Be welcoming.* We strive to be a community that welcomes and supports
people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited
to members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, colour,
immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex,
sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family
status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability.
- *Be respectful.* Not all of us will agree all the time, but disagreement
is no excuse for poor behavior and poor manners. We might all experience
some frustration now and then, but we cannot allow that frustration to turn
into a personal attack. It’s important to remember that a community where
people feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one. Members of
the /dpt/ community should be respectful when dealing with other members as
well as with people outside the /dpt/ community.
- *When we disagree, try to understand why.* Disagreements, both social and
technical, happen all the time and /dpt/ is no exception. It is important
that we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. Remember
that we’re different. The strength of /dpt/ comes from its varied community,
people from a wide range of backgrounds. Different people have different
perspectives on issues. Being unable to understand why someone holds a
viewpoint doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. Don’t forget that it is human to
err and blaming each other doesn’t get us anywhere. Instead, focus on
helping to resolve issues and learning from mistakes.

I was making a program to read an html file and break it up into words. But the algorithm I made failed because Im not sure about the formatting of html files. Never worked with them before.
What I tried to was to find every instance of
> > </span>
but that pretty much missed everything.
I was gonna tailor the algorithm to find every instance of
> </span> <span
as well but before I do that I figured Id ask here since I could be taking the wrong approach to solving this.

THREAD CHALLENGE
Replace this class structure and implement the compare function in C.
compare a b must return true if a and b are mathematically the same number. For exampleinteger a = 7;
fixed b = 7.000;
float c = 7.001;
compare(a, b); // must return true
compare(a, c); // must return false
number is the interface of the class hierarchy

>Stali, which is built with statically linked binaries for speed and compactness, upends traditional ideas about how a Linux distribution should work
>The first public version of Stali, a Linux distribution built to be as fast and small as possible, has been released after several years of work. This first release of the entire Stali OS fits into a 34MB ISO
>Stali stands for static Linux, with "static" referring to how all binaries in the distribution are built statically against their libraries. Any routines in the library required by the binary are copied directly into the binary itself, instead of being linked to a shared copy of the library used by multiple programs.
>Stali's project head, Anselm R. Garbe (a developer currently working at BMW and creator of the DWM window manager), believes static linking works out better for most common use cases. The most obvious benefit is that static binaries have a smaller memory and on-disk footprint. Static binaries also claim to be faster, although there are no benchmarks as yet to show how Stali performs against other distributions.
>Another claimed about static linking is that it increases the stability of the binaries in question. They're less likely to break if shared libraries are updated, since those binaries don't have dependencies on them -- something Garbe believes is good for the long-term maintainability of the system. He also claims this approach minimizes attack vectors.
>Other changes to how traditional Linux distribution work are even more radical. For one, there's no package manager; instead, all updates are pulled from upstream by way of git. Also, the controversial systemd startup system isn't used; rather, Stali has its own sinit utility -- also statically linked -- that handles the job. Kernel modules aren't supported either, which is something of a requirement under static linking.

Chakra is pretty extreme. Normally I hate GNOME and gtk. But I won't deny there are some useful gtk softwares out there.
Netrunner is garbage.

Honestly because I'm in need of stable system at the moment, and after all this memeing abour Arch and Arch based distros I don't know who to trust anymore and I dont have time to try them all fully.
