Alright /g/

This is gonna sound really cliché, but i want to take an education in developing web-sites, apps and other media.
I'm not "into" computers so to say, i use them and that's it. I can't code or anything, but i really want to learn it.
So i'm looking around and stumbling upon front-end and back-end programming as the way to split up this kind of media-programming or whatever you like to call it.

Where's the money at? I'd consider myself a creative person, and front-end programming sounds like my cup of tea, but if there's no money in it, i might as well not. To turn it around, is back-end programming the way to go or will i be bored if i'd like to create something visible? The way i understand it, it's all about stuff you can't see.

I guess you /g/entlemen knows a lot about the industry as i take it most of you are working with computers and programming on a daily basis, so any input would be appreciated. Keep in mind, i'm in no way into computers, so this post might be laughable.

Pic related i guess, came up when googling front-end vs. back-end

If you can't interest yourself in at least one layer beneath the one you are working with, you won't pass mediocrity - ever.
>>
A lot of GNU/Linux software could do with some front end developers. There really isn't one sometimes which is why you get some pretty counter-intuitive stuff.

Tim Cook confirmed for Best CEO.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/11441265/Terrorists-should-be-eliminated-says-Apples-Tim-Cook.html

>“Apple has a very straightforward business model," he said. “We make money if you buy one of these [pointing at an iPhone]. That’s our product. You [the consumer] are not our product. We design our products such that we keep a very minimal level of information on our customers.”

>“We don’t make money selling your information to somebody else. We don’t think you want that. We don’t want to do that. It’s not in our values system to do that. Could we make a lot of money doing that? Of course. But life isn’t about money, life is about doing the right thing. This has been a core value of our company for a long time.”

>“Some companies are not transparent that the connection of these data points produces five other things that you didn’t know that you gave up. It becomes a gigantic trove of data.”

>“We are not a treasure trove of data. It is a cop-out to say: choose between privacy or security. There is no reason why customers should have to select one. There is no reason not to have both.”

>“If they are really honest, they know that withholding encryption will penalise good people, not put a barrier up for bad people. There is no trade-off. It fundamentally doesn’t work. There has to be other solutions.”

Why aren't you using Apple products, /g/? Do you enjoy being constantly watched and data-monetized by Google, your mobile carrier, and the NSA?

So I'm trying to think of which response to this will get more replies, I have two;

>implying this isn't all just a setup from the NSA to get you into a more closed system

or

>implying I'm not already using Apple products

Which one do you guys think would work best?

Past 2 years I've been using Bitdefender 2013 Total Security and its worked a charm especially for browsing backwater shithole sites and moderate torrenting. Best AV in that list you got there by a longshot.

Decided to upgrade to BD 2015 today, right now actually.

Fridges are technology. Never seen a fridge thread.

What do you have? Do you like it?

I bought pic related today, got really good reviews;
http://www.productreview.com.au/p/panasonic-nr-by552xsau/3.html

After plugging it in though, it was making a high pitch sound. Im thinking it might be a fault, so i'll make them replace it if it continues.

The beige cheapo fridge I bought in 1994 has more square ft of space in it than even the most expensive of modern fridges, i don't understand it.

The only thing they seem to do with technology these days is make it prettier.

So, it looks like my fiance is finally sick of her 5 year old Macbook (with 2GB RAM) and wants to see the other side.

She doesn't have many specifics for what she's looking for.

>doesn't want a 2-1
>liked a friend's Dell
>no preference between win7/8 (id load it with a cracked version anyway)
>needs to "just werk"
>She wants a screen with... rounded edges?
>dont want a POS Toshiba or acer that'll fall apart after 2 years
>doesn't want it to be a blocky monster (like my T410)
>screen size 13"-15"
>$300-500
>minimum Intel Corei3/4GB RAM

any ideas?

Add more RAM and and SSD, tell her to shut up and deal for 3 more years.

As long as its not PPC it will be fine. Should make it feel better than new

Also, girls/women/whatever can't install common sense pro 2015 so you know that it would just end up in malware hell anyway. Best keep them on OS for dummies

So I'm due for an upgrade and all bias aside I was wondering if I should get the iPhone 6+ or wait for the Galaxy S6. My last two smartphones were the iPhone 4 and 5C. Something I'm big on is photography so I need something with a great camera as well. As for music I use Spotify so it's not an issue. Im also open to other suggestions, I heard the LG's and Note's are good to

why would you want to shell out top-dollar for a shitty overpriced phone with a bloated UI and barely any advantages over competition? join the Lumia masterrace, we'll welcome you with open arms to the lumia 930 brotherhood
>>
Galaxy s6 rumors point toward 20mp plus you Can get Spotify premium for free on android with a little bit of googling, the s6 will have many many more features and to the guy who said bloated. No it isn't, the new touch wiz in the Galaxy s6 comes with two Samsung apps in it.. Only two.. Samsung has debloated this phone by a lot, the phone will be extremely amazing..
>>
>>46789013
I would wait until the S6 is actually released, at least see the specs first, than you should compare the things you like and dislike of the two. Put these into categories, like for example: Design (S6):8 Design(6+):7 and do that for performance and all the other things that matter, than, whichever one has the highest score is more than likely the one you're gonna want more. But personally, I wouldn't bother with Apple.

Why exactly did Americans choose to not have net neutrality?

I guess there won't be any non-botnet fiber to any of you in the next 50 years. The USA keep lagging 15 years behind Europe and the gap will only increase.

Powerful players have realized the value of stripping the masses of their privacy. Honestly I would not be surprised to see it mostly gone by 2025. Not completely gone, but close enough for it to not matter in the grand scheme of things. We're living in the dystopian cyberpunk future, but it's nothing like we expected.

>Powerful players have realized the value of stripping the masses of their privacy.
Part of me wonders whether this is done as a matter of power, or merely as the convergence of other factors.

Companies saw a way to profit by taking our privacy
Government saw an avenue to more power by taking data from the companies, also creating incentives for more data to be taken.
People didn't care, even after the Snowden leaks.

Even without a shady conspiracy, we appear to have set ourselves down a path to an awful world, to have passed the peak of society.

Perhaps this is merely a transitioning phase, from individualism to collectivism, to the end of the individual as anything but a component of society.

My primary regret is that I will likely have to live to see this unfold.

I just installed linux mint and its fucking awesome
why do I never see it on /g/?
