So apparently Steam Machines are arriving this fall. What is your opinion on them?
Personally this is really just..dumb. It's pretty much a generic PC with steam stamped all over it. PC enthusiasts will just continue to build their own their own to their liking for probably cheaper. Console gamers will most likely go with what they know and trust. Where is the market for this system, who will buy this?

It'll make boatloads of money because casuals will pick it up. Nothing wrong with it really. They are still PC's and not consoles and should be pulling over 30 fps 1080p and im sure it'll be entry level before they build they're own.

Yields been getting better: five 8350's i've set up during the last four months have had almost half of the power consumption of any of the early 8350's i set up, so in that sense any of more recently produced piledrivers are of higher binning that the ones manufactured in 2012.
The FX-9* were idiotic decision really and they have sold terribly, and for a good reason.

Moore's law is dead. Graphics card won't be able to drive 4k at 60fps or even 120fps any time soon.
So, 1080p upscaling would be the best solution. It fits perfectly into 3840x2160 and would look as sharp as today's games with a noticeably better desktop experience.
One problem. Monitor resolution needs to be able to shift quickly and seamlessly between the two modes OR all graphics intensive programs need to have an upscaled 4k mode.
Is anyone aware of any work done on either front or does 4k gaming have to wait 10+ years?
How big would the performance hit be for software upscaling of 1080p to 2160p?

High end gpus, and especially sli/crossfire configurations can already handle 4k gaming just fine
Shitty stupid assumption by 14-year-old. Look at target render resolutions from older titles, and realize that we're rendering 1080p because it's as far as we can push today's graphics, it's that today's graphics devote 50% of processing power to rendering realistic turban sweat on the Arab you're shooting because there's literally nothing else to do with it while we're stuck with 1080p displays.

Smartphones are basically top-tier portable emulation machines, but there's still one huge problem: The controls. Since you have to use the touchscreen, most of the controls are wonky and unresponsive.
So my question is, does anyone have experience with using a controller for a smartphone? How do they work? How good are they?

IPS vs TN
Anyone know when a 1080p 24'' IPS monitor with gsync 120/144hz will be out on the market?
My current monitor is dying and i can only find overly expensive TN monitors. And of course the only IPS monitor with gsync they release is 1440p.
Don't buy gsync until freesync comes out.
At the moment gsync is the only adaptive refresh rate on the market, so they command a massive price premium for them. Not to mention that gsync will never be cheaper than freesync purely because nvidia has a $200 DRM module in the monitor that you pay for.
Adaptive refresh rate is extremely young.
I was originally going for TN, but after reading horror stories about it on the internet, im really hesitant to spend 600€+ on a monitor with colors and image quality i wont like.
