Is it really worth the extra money going higher than 1080p 60fps on a rig?

More worth than your pathetic life.

Sorry, Merry Christmas.

>>52044703

only a competitive fps game like CSGO benefits from higher fps than your refresh rate due to reduced input latency, there's no other benefit to it except for maybe reduced screen tearing

I'ma tell you this right now OP. The aanswer is two things and bare with me because the whskiy did too.

It is probably, most likely, maybe NOT worth it. Spend the extra money though if you want.

Why? Simple... If you don't, you'll always wonder how much awesomer it'd be if you'd had spend it. So if you have the expendable income now.. just buy your stupid overpriced rig and enojoy 1000fps at 8k or whatever.

After a while I guarantee that you'll be all like: "why did I spend so much money on all this" and then you'll sell a grapgic card ro two or something.

However now you'll never feel that WHAT IF feeling of having a super awesome fast rig because you'll know what it felt like and you'll know firsthand it wasn't worth it so in a sense it's worth it to do it once, just to feel it man.

At least that's what happened to me.

I went $3500 on a system 4 years ago and have never upgraded it since. If anything I sold a video card because I don't gane as much anymore. I do like the system because it's still fast as fug after all this time. vbut I wouldn't spend that much againl.

I love you OP. Merry christmas gnight

I'm upgrading my motherboard and processor tomorrow and I'm gonna need to ditch my old windows license. I've been thinking of switching to Linux (I've had mint in a VM for a few years now) but I don't know if I'm ready for the switch. Should I install Mint over wangblows, and have a pirated version in a VM for muh gaymes, or should I dual boot?

Dual Boot desu senpai, there will come a tired when you will be tired of the linux shit and just wanna do stuff, that's what Windows is for.

you won't be able to game in a VM, no matter how good your computer is. Dual boot. Just switch to Windows when you want to game. If you have an SSD rebooting into a different OS will be just as fast as booting up a VM.

What causes the whole bottom (incl. legs) of this rocket to go from white to black? Yes of course there's heat at the start, heat at the landing, but it just looks so weird that it starts to go black below a clean straight line (see next picture)

Hey /g/ Music Technology has been a passion of mine for awhile now. However anyone who creates electronic music or "epic music" (aka trailer music, 2 Steps From Hell) can tell you there's only so much you can do without VST's. Unfortunately those can cost $100's. Regular torrenting is understandably rather limited in this area. I created this thread because I'm interested in finding a group of like minded individuals/musicians. I didn't create this thread to beg for an invite, rather I'm looking for a jumping off point, to do my homework and eventually work my way towards one. However I am unaware of any private trackers (if there are any) that fit the bill for this. Any information/advice related to this is very much appreciated.
Merry Christmas /g/
(Pic included because I needed a file, its the fucking Fort Knox of Vst's and sounds like liquid gold)

I am wondering if there is anything else out there that's a better option for viewing and editing PDFs than Adobe Acrobat Reader. Any PDF related suggestions or opinions?

The ones integrated in most OS by default in most GNU/Linux distros are fine. AFAIK open office allows you to edit pdfs.

What's the best way to hide my IP while torrenting for free?
23 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
why hide it? just use a seedbox in a country that doesn't give a fuck about copyright notices and sync shit every few days.
>>
seedbox with tor to protect your privacy while browsing, or a vpn with tor
>>
>>52043591
unless you're torrenting videos of children getting raped and dismembered, a seedbox should suffice. you don't need tor or a vpn or any of that extra shit.

Hey so I just bought a Straight Talk Sims Card for christmas for a new phone I got out of Tmobile, and whenever I put the card serial number in I keep being told....

Cant complete the branding , Check the Part Number

the number isn't wrong so what the fuck is up.

>>
>>52043490

Kek. Call them and ask. You'll get a bunch of Indians that hang up on you if they can't figure out whqt you need.

The sim card kit comes with a cdma and gsm kit. Make sure you use the cdma if you have a t-mobile phone. This will require you to go online and register your imei number with the access code on the red card included in the pack.

I hope you were smart enough to get the one year service for $495.
>>
Its T mobile so it says using the GSM, so I went through with inserting both the Serial number, the substitute serial number, and the serial number of my phone (IMEI) and it still came up with nothing....
>>
>>52043490
Install gentoo and hack into their system. You've gotta leak their source code, and offer to take it down for a lifetime of free talk/text/data.

how does intel keep getting away with this?

i need to build a new rig since i sold my old one and im seriously considering just going with a fx8350 for like 1-2 years then switching to zen....

intel is really screwing its costumers hard skylake has been out for a while, sold out and now restocked... and then the fuckers decide to spike 5th gen prices??!

wtf man

>>
This is gonna sound crazy but it's almost like demand for Haswell is still strong despite Skylake being released.
>>
Are you new to intel?

Old intel parts NEVER go down in price. Never.
Then as supply dwindles, the prices rise for a while.
>>
>>52043387
Thats a really high price for the 4690K, i got mine for 149 new just before skylake came out. damn.

Do any 4k monitors actually scale 1080p perfectly? In theory it should be easy, but the upscaling on the few that I've seen actually looked quite poor.

>>
That image looks wrong.
>>
from my only experience with a 4k tv, 1080p looked like shit on it for vidya.
>>
>do any 4k monitors actually scale 1080p perfectly?
what does this mean? 4k is 3840x2160, which is double of 1920x1080.

If you're asking about scaling for desktop use, you're taking up beef with the operating system and blaming it on the monitor. I have a pair of UP2414Qs at home right here, and a P2415Q in my lab, and they all look like regular 24" 1080p monitors that have magically sharper text and other assets. They're basically "retina" displays, because OS X has been pushing scaled assets since 2012 when the rMBP came out.

Why do computer illiterates have to talk about how much better they are than me 90% of the time i pull out my iPhone in public? It's really getting a bit old. Leave that discussion for your reddit posts

>On a car trip with a coworker, and he gets me to reply to a message on his android phone
>i can't work out how to use it as it has touch screen buttons or something and no home button
>"Oh your an iPhone guy are you? I don't know why people buy iPhones, i mean my phone does everything an iPhone can do and it cost half as much......."
>Attempt to change the subject 5 times before he catches on

>Pull out Macbook at a conference to make some slides up for the talk i was just asked to do
>Complete stranger comes up to me and starts telling me how much better his thinkpad with windows 10 is.

This happens about 10 times a week. Those of you here who go outside, consider keeping your tech talk to nerd friends, family members, and the internet. Nobody else want's to hear it. And most of the time it is the equivalent of listening to somebody with down syndrome trying to give you stock tips
