Does capitalism delay technological development, /g/?

Of course. It creates monopolies and stagnation in markets where there is a high barrier to entry. Pharmaceuticals, for example, could be much more accessible if we abolished intellectual property.

Of course it does

Comments in code discussion.

Do you guys use alot of comments? I have been a developer for about 7 years now and havent really been a big comment writer. Even when reading other peoples source codes I can just figure it out from reading the code itself.

I should also state I didn't do any college to learn to program I did it on my own time for fun. Now I have been a paid developer for 4 years I think.

How do you guys code? I write more comments than code, detailed, or none at all.

What do you usually program in though?
>>
>>54461402
I usually write down my process of reasoning out the problem in comments and delete most of them after I've solved it. Explicitly listing it what the code should do beforehand makes writing it well easier and helps me think of cases where it should succeed/fail and how it will work. They're not beneficial afterwards though, since by that point its obvious from reading the code how it works.

Bought a laptop with Windows 8.1, and I wonder whether to upgrade to win10. 8's start screen search lags for seconds, the titlebars look like ass, full screen UWP apps is stupid. Is it worth it to just go for 10? Can I set it to not automatically install updates?

windows 10 is installed on 18% of PCs, according to statcounter
there are about 2 billion PCs existing, which means that there are 360 million windows 10 machines
assuming a windows 10 machine sends 20 mbytes of data each day, this means that MS gets send about 7500 terabytes of data each day. This means that in a month, MS gets 225 petabytes of data. Before adoption of windows was lower, so i am going to approximate that MS has about 1500 petabytes of data. So, where the fuck does MS store 1500 petabytes of data? And if we all are going to install windows 10, won't they run out of HDDs to store our data on?

Pretend they're Google.
>>
>>54461105
They probably compress that data. I'd image there are quite a few redundancies that Huffman encoding would take care of.
>>
>>54461126
won't that require insane processing power and electricity? Like maybe simply buying HDDs will end up cheaper.

Hey guys, I'm moving soon and want to create a nice stereo system setup for my new bedroom. Doesn't have to be super loud - probably going to play quiet jazz music most of the time. Looking to spend around $300 for the whole thing. Suggestions?

The day my job laid me off... i went back to my computer and deleted the hard worked database that only I had access to edit and that everyone was using everyday.... Made sure i shredded it with some shitty shredding program so they can't recover it.

Then I left. Collected unemployment checks for like 6 months before I decided to get another job.

I'm trying to get more dedicated video memory.

I went into the BIOS ( my card is an Asrock Extreme ) but there are pretty much no graphics options under Advanced Settings. Only one about IOMMU and another if I want the port to be Express or not.

There's no actual option for allocating video memory.

So how do I do this?
I'm on a desktop PC, by the way. My graphics card is dedicated, not integrated in the cpu.
