Is it really Worth learning ruby?
Been reading The ruby programming language by oreilly and it just seems like the more I read the more unintuitive the language is. Should I keep reading /g/?

imo Ruby is dying. I switched from to Java to Ruby like 1 year ago because of a good offer and now i regret it. Ruby is also full of magic "goodies" which sometimes (often for me) can kill you hours debugging and trying to understand wtf is going on. Better Ruby devs maybe don't feel the same way...
>>
>>52621908
Op here, the code looks overly complicated and the way you write expressions seems arbitrary. Like they put alot into making the language readable, but by doing so they make the code more complicated to write.

I dont even know how they managed that.
>>
>>52621908
This t︂b︂︂h be honest faⅿ
It seems cool at first because you can condense like 20 lines of code to 5, but then it just become unreadable and a pain to debug. You can mitigate these problems by writing in a more C or Python style, but at that point, why not just use Python which gets about the same performance, has more packages available, and has more career opportunities?

Nvidia's shitty drivers always default to limited RGB no matter what. There wasn't even a toggle in the driver control panel to change it to full until last year. You had to download a third party program to do it.

Why are tvs so shit?

I've literally never in my life seen a tv that didn't hurt my eyes with its awful image. They also always have dogshit slow, fugly, laggy and convoluted firmware. Pc monitors on the other hand have a perfect, crisp image and just werk, and just act as pure, straightforward, instant output devices instead of being half a pc on their own.

What does /g/ think of MATLAB? Has anyone ever used it to program Arduino based systems? I'm using it in school for aerospace engineering and I want to use it for some personal projects with the Arduino plug in.

>>52619518
it was pretty gud in the 90's
>>
>>52619518
I had to learn it in uni. Horrible language, but it has huge number of modules/libraries. I have no experience in programming Arduinos but I would start with C or maybe C++. There is no reason to tie yourself to a fucking expensive language.
>>
>>52619518
MATLAB is fine. I personally used it in school, but I wouldn't recommend using it for Arduino because you might as well use C. My guess is that it would be easier (after an initial learning curve), more efficient, and better documented than MATLAB's plug-in.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size - makes you look autistic
X220 - 12.5", lightweight - shit resolution
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>They’re really cheap when you buy a used one.
>Keyboards feel excellent while typing (no, not the old ones).
>Great durability thanks to the inclusion of rollcages and use of glass fiber reinforced plastic for the chassis. The keyboard is splash proof and spilled liquids will drain out.
>Utilitarian design - e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking solutions that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for almost every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing on the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.
>you will get laughed at for looking like an autistic neckbeard

My x200s is becoming a pain to use (absolutely shit ccfl screen, weak battery, 2 out of 3 usbs not working, cracks on the body, 2gb ram - can be upgraded but not sure if to invest in it now) and I have two options:
a) Local guy is selling x200s with better CPU than i have (1.86 > 1.6 GHz), 2gb ram, good battery and and broken screen for about 30$ (please note this is in Europe so everythings more expensive). I could scavange it, buy affs, put my old screen in it and sell it for some bucks. I just love x200s.

b) I could invest about 500€ to get something more recent. But newer x2** are heavier, have 16:9 and honestly, if i invested that much, i want something fancy. X1 is cool but could afford only 1st gen which has shit screen.

I usually just type, browse interents etc on linux with awesome, so weak CPU shouldnt matter much, should it?

Still not satisfied with the responses in the previous thread of what makes Thinkpad more worth it than e.g. a Viao, Samsung, or even HP.
I've tried the red clitoris and I can see how it's helpful, and I'd admit I am a fan of non-chiclet keyboards. I guess I can see that they're sturdy and stable, too. But choosing a Thinkpad over anything else seems like preference, as in "well I like ugly laptops" rather than something based in reason, like they objectively have better specs.

Looking to get pic related or any other card in the same price range. Preferably Nvidia because of functionality. Mostly used for gaming ofcourse.

DON'T GET THE STRIX!

its a terrible overclocker and poor booster. i had a strix 970 myself and for the same price, i swapped it with a gigabyte g1 970 and its boosts MUCH higher (1.4ghz vs 1.2ghz) and overclocks much better as well.

the strix is limited to one 6pin power connector due to its hard coded low tdp. its also voltage locked, 1.17vs vs 1.2vs like most other cards in its class.

>>52617686
is a meme. i have two in sli and LOVE IT (both cards combined draw a total power of a single 980 ti). for 1080p its a monster and the best value in its class.

the 390 is a massive house fire for its performance. you would think a card with a 350 tdp would deliver better performance, but it doesn't, and its 8gb of ram is useless since if you run into scenario where you need it, your gpu will bottleneck first.

crossfire might be different, but crossfire with two 350 watt tdp cards would be insane in both heat, and power draw.
