What's the most technologically advanced country on Earth?

Japan is a serious candidate with vending machines, bullet trains and stuff everywhere, but they still use fucking fax machines.

Probably Taiwan or something.

Fax machines are awesome

Not sure what you're on about with them. And no, not japan. They have gimmick things like heated toilet seats, cool vending machines, but their average home isn't any more advanced then America's.

If you are serious about switching to Linux, use it exclusively for 2 weeks.
Avoid booting to windows for that period of time, or you are likely to start retreating back to it instead of getting used to linux as your new home and working on making it feel comfortable

You can safely experience installation process and the basic usage through a virtual machine

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size - makes you look autistic
X220 - 12.5", lightweight - shit resolution
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>They’re really cheap when you buy a used one.
>Keyboards feel excellent while typing (no, not the old ones).
>Great durability thanks to the inclusion of rollcages and use of glass fiber reinforced plastic for the chassis. The keyboard is splash proof and spilled liquids will drain out.
>Utilitarian design - e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking solutions that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for almost every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing on the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.
>you will get laughed at for looking like an autistic neckbeard

FX-9590 all the way. Its 8 core with 5GHz boost and its cheaper that i5 4690k which is only 4 core with 3.9GHz boost.

How does one go about learning vim?
I already know all of the basics, but I haven't acheived the speed and efficiency that I feel other programmers keep boasting about. I've already done a few of the unpayed interactive vim tutorials on line, and went through vimtutor. What's next?
179 posts and 20 images submitted.
>>
>>52598039
Just keep using it, after a while you will notice that you are faster and more efficient
>>
>>52598083
This. I did vimtutor in the cli and decided to stick with it for at least a week. Only took about a day to get used to hjkl and things like y/d/w/b/e/$/0 were already convincing me to stick with it.

Now I have a .vimrc I like and can scp to whatever box I need to use which is also convenient.

Question /g/

Do you think that with the advances in integrated graphics on CPUs, the physical graphics card may soon suffer the same fate as the sound card?

They're getting much more powerful than the shitty integrated graphics set ups of the mid 00s, and the moment they can comfortably play beefy games in 1080p is the moment that 'entry level' graphics cards are completely redundant.
81 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>52596226
Integrated graphics are a thing
>>
Nah. Not any time soon. Eventually in the future (50+ years) yes.
Soon, no.
Why? Sound processing is a solved problem. Once you hit 48KHz there's just nothing else to do. Once we hit enough transistors to sort that out, sound processing is about tweaks rather than raw processing power.

GPUs are not the same. They still benefit from being larger and more power hungry, massively so.

Beefy games will always be beefy to GPUs rather than integrated graphics, since they will be using the top of what's available to look better.

Unless you think 'graphics' is a solved problem with real time rendering of photo realistic graphics, of course.
>>
>>52596226
A graphics card is only necessary for games and workstation stuff m8
