I'm studying computer engineering and my current laptop is about the kick the bucket and I could use a replacement. Can anyone help a brother out?
Some specifications: Would prefer it to be unix based rather than windows for obvious reasons. Good build quality and portable. ( wont break if put in a backpack and thrown around ) Size isn't the most important thing. Can work with either big or small. Won't necessarily be used for gaming but it has to be able to take any program I throw at it with no hiccups. Longer battery life is a plus as I'll be using it all throughout the day, but I should be close by to outlets a lot. Lightweight is nice but not required. SSD would be great, but HDD is okay.

Just buy a used thinkpad and install whatever linux you like. I'm using an X200 that cost me only $60 shipped, came with a working battery and I installed debian on it. Works great.

Best bet is just moving to the west coast and networking with startup culture. 3 people at the startup I'm at have left for management/lead positions in the past month

So I've got this USB a couple of days ago and everything was fine. since today it doesnt work like it should. It works fine on my mac but my on windows pc its says that the drive needs to be formated before I can use it, but when I want to reformat it It says its only 200mb instead of 16GB. Its just creates another partition on the drive? anyone got an idea whats wrong? thanks

I'm looking to get just a little bit more RAM since it's cheaper and I don't really need much more. Would buying just a single stick with the same timings and speeds fuck up my two existing, dual channel sticks in any way?
Building my first PC and I have it all together and working... Except for the top fan. I am using an S340 case. My liquid cooler is working, and so it the rear fan. I am guessing this is the cable for the top, but I'm not sure where I could plug it into? Thank you.
