What fun tech related stuff have you done/acquired this year?
Pic related. Set a makeygo up with a can as a controller and let kids play games as a group on xmas eve. I also let kids use my phone with the lense kit which they were fond of. It all really made me smile to see kids listen for the explanation behind the "toys"

I attempted to kill myself by sticking a fork in a power socket. Unfortunately I lived, and was taken to an emergency room and my whole family was so worried, which made me feel like they cared, and now my right arm tingles all the time, but I think the electricity zapped my brain in just the right way to make me feel good and happy most of the time so it's a pretty good trade-off.

how to rotate a window as in pic related?
this is in linux (kde specifically) but is there any WM/DE capable of doing this?
I remember seeing a tech demo for one of those tablets and they were rotating windows all over the place, i cant remember what it was, but it was touch based.
why cant X11/Kwin/etc be able to do this? i know wayland's supposed to be getting it, but with opengl backends already available for any compositing manager, why isnt it avaialable now, at least as a window effect?
I've been searching for the last half hour and cant find anything. so i guess i should look into the code itself and find a solution.. any suggestions where to start, like mayb kwin mailing list or something?

yes, that's what i did for the OP
but i'm talking about doing it arbitrarily for any window as you work with it. if windows are drawn objects, with specified x/y coordinates, why would a WM be incable of rotating that? especially in the age of compositing/opengl WMs

hey /g/ i recently bought a gtx 960 didnt have enough for the gtx 970, and currently have a 27" monitor (@ 60hz), I want to buy another monitor to use it as dual (@120hz), will i benefit from the 120hz with my gtx 960 or should i buy another a normal 60hz? I just play LoL and WoW.. Merry Xmas.

If you are serious about switching to Linux and if you have Windows dual-booted (recommended for pure newbies),
we recommend you use it exclusively for 2 weeks, and avoid Windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's
likely you will start retreating back to windows instead of getting used to GNU/Linux as your new home and working on
making it feel the way you want it.

So the latest round of AMD cards were pretty underwhelming I think everyone can agree.
One thing I don't understand, even if the Fury and 390x were underwhelming, why didn't they at least try to severely undercut Nvidia on a price point range thus at least to try to build a larger marketshare for future products.
AMD's business decisions are quite strange, why would you pick up a Fury over a 980ti in the same price range? You wouldn't.
What is AMD's plan that I am missing?

The only thing AMD fucked up was not putting HDMI 2.0 outputs on the cards and not making the top of the line fury X a 6GB card. That alone would have warranted the price.
