Step one is to test the AC Adapter for correct function. Place the negative lead from your multi on the outer metal wall of the plug that goes into the laptop, and then put the positive lead of the multimeter on the small pole inside of the same plug. I'm posting from the 15" early 2008 mbp. when these machines were new i reflowed hundreds of them. This computer has the nvidia 8600m GT which was the subject of a class action lawsuit against nvidia. The hardware is broken there is no permanent fix. Apple extended the warranty and did free replacements for 4 years after the purchase. you need to find a revision 2 motherboard, get a new computer, or keep reflowing it. this wasn't only an apple problem.
