There has been a lot of talk about Vulkan these past few days since support was launched for Doom and it showed massive improvements for AMD GPU's. I'm not very well informed about API's and the technology behind them, so what are the basic differences between DX12 and Vulkan?
I am aware that Vulkan support most platforms (Windows, BSD/Unix, OSX, Android etc) and that DX12 is a Windows standard but what are the disadvantages of Vulkan? Some people just go and on about how amazing Vulkan is and I admit the recent improvements we've seen in Doom is impressive (for AMD cards) but there has to be some major disadvantages, otherwise everyone would be developing for Vulkan. From what I've seen there is virtually no performance decrease for Nvidia GPUs running Vulkan so why even bother with DX12?
Please don't turn this into a flamewar, I'm not biased towards any side, I would just like some (simple and easy to understand) information about the future of gaming API's.

Vulkan has zero disadvantages other than the fact that it's not being backed by Microsoft. The reason it's not being used more is because Microsoft literally bribe developers to use DX12.
I have two phones, one being an iphone 5 that has an overheating problem.
My solution to this would be designing a case with a cpu fan or something similar to cool the phone.
I am asking you to help me build a blueprint for it since I am not knowledgeable enough with wiring.
My original idea was to buy a cheap iphone case and cut the back out, buy a micro cpu fan or two and super glue them to the cut out, the powering of these fans is stumping me.

I know a guy there. Not too hard to get into honestly if you didn't dick around in high school, but you probably won't get a lot of money from them even with high test scores and a balanced portfolio. If you can afford it? Sure. If not? Get a CS degree somewhere else, this is the twenty first century, unless you actually give a shit about going into academia (or however you spell it) or some funky R&D shit, it just doesn't matter.

Then recently I had a problem with phone. Speaker and Mike is not working then I go to service center told them the problem.they said we will solve the problem don't worry. Then after 4, 5,days I get SMS and said work is done so I go to service center and take the phone they now phone is working properly. Then I go home I thought now it is working but when I see the phone it was switch off then I put the phone on charging but phone was not charging and phone was heating automatically.Then I saw the back panel it was changed. There no dents on my first back panel but after servicing there are to many scratches and dents on phone next day I again I get to service center and said phone is dead not working and my back panel is changed they said that we will check. Then after 8 days they give me the phone and said motherboard is replace. But when again I checked the phone back panel was not replaced I said to the concern person that my back panel was changed this is not my panel he said they chaneed back panel but I know it was not mine then again I said the scratches and dents was there I told him he said let me check and get inside and clean the panel and gave me. He make me fool I know. This how company cheating with customers. How can we trust to them what are they doing it is very very sadful to me I bought this expensive phone.

I picked up a Kindle Fire 7inch tablet (pic related) on Amazon for $33 yesterday during Prime Day. I also have a 16GB SD card I will use with it.
What's some cool shit I can do with it/use it for? Anyone else have budget tablets they keep around?
I rooted and installed the a new aosp rom on it and just use it as a regular tablet now or books and kodi.
I was thinking about using it as a retro emulator machine, or a cheap remote desktop for acceasing my PC from the couch.
Is rooting the Kindle tablet easy or even worth it?
My main concern is battery life. I read that the stock setup brings pretty good (5-8 hrs. depending on use) battery life. Would a different ROM fuck with this?

I just recently got all the parts for my build and put everything together and it wouldn't boot.
After a bit of troubleshooting I found it booted just fine after I removed the 390 card I got for it.
I'm wondering what went wrong with the card. There are two red flags that came up in the process; it didn't click when I put it into the PCIE slot as far as I could, until I screwed it into the case it would wobble back and forth, and basically installing it with my motherboard already fastened to the case required me to put it in tilted a bit until it seemed to go all the way into the slot. Being aware that these may have been problems I was surprised to see that when I started my build the top graphic would light up and the fan went on so it seemed like it was connected.
I basically concluded that it was probably that this pin in the pic seemed to have been chipped off a bit, but I also figured it may have just been like that and I was just not installing it correctly. Kinda looking for some closure here before I decide to buy a new one, any thoughts?
