hey /g/entoomen, how come my wifi only works on windows ?

i have an Alpha with an RTL8187l chip.
the wifi i'm trying to connect to is pretty far away, -58db is the best i could get.
while on linux i can connect to it but then thats it, it seems that all my packets are lost.
i changed my txpower to 30 but it still the same.

on windows however, it works ! altho i get qute a few packet loss i can still use internet.

how is that possible ?

ps: linux can connect and use closer wifi networks just fine

Just use Ethernet.

rts[_threshold]
RTS/CTS adds a handshake before each packet transmission to make sure that the channel is clear. This adds overhead, but
increases performance in case of hidden nodes or a large number of active nodes. This parameter sets the size of the
smallest packet for which the node sends RTS ; a value equal to the maximum packet size disables the mechanism. You may
also set this parameter to auto, fixed or off.
frag[mentation_threshold]
Fragmentation allows to split an IP packet in a burst of smaller fragments transmitted on the medium. In most cases this
adds overhead, but in a very noisy environment this reduces the error penalty and allow packets to get through interfer‐
ence bursts. This parameter sets the maximum fragment size which is always lower than the maximum packet size.
This parameter may also control Frame Bursting available on some cards, the ability to send multiple IP packets together.
This mechanism would be enabled if the fragment size is larger than the maximum packet size.
You may also set this parameter to auto, fixed or off.
retry Most cards have MAC retransmissions, and some allow to set the behaviour of the retry mechanism.
To set the maximum number of retries, enter limit `value'. This is an absolute value (without unit), and the default
(when nothing is specified). To set the maximum length of time the MAC should retry, enter lifetime `value'. By
defaults, this value is in seconds, append the suffix m or u to specify values in milliseconds or microseconds.
You can also add the short, long, min and max modifiers.

Probably going to buy one of these unlocked next week.

Are they a meme or what? Need a good, fast phone that'll last me a few years.

I'm with this guy OP.

I had an HTC One M7 and replaced it with a Nexus 5.

Currently have a HTC One M9 and can't wait to replace it with a new Nexus.

Fingerprinting is the newest way of tracking you across websites.
It's being done right now by companies like Google.
Because unlike cookie based tracking you can't defeat it just by disabling cookies.
There is currently NO FOOLPROOF DEFENCE against fingerprinting (except quitting the Internet).

Google's privacy policy states
>Other technologies are used for similar purposes as a cookie on other platforms where cookies are not available or applicable
https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/key-terms/#toc-terms-cookie

ReCAPTCHA probably contains fingerprinting code:
https://archive.is/9K5gs
This means that the majority of 4chan users could be being fingerprinted, and Google might know about your shitposting habits even if cookies are disabled.

Google releases limited hangout of how much they know about you:
https://news.slashdot.org/story/16/06/29/2038257/googles-my-activity-reveals-how-much-it-knows-about-you
>Oh, they're just remembering what YouTube videos I watched, nothing creepy about that, I already knew they were doing it!
>I guess all those people who fear tracking really are just conspiracy theorists!

Daily reminder to do all your Amazon / eBay / LinkedIn / botnet shit in a completely separate browser to your Googling or buying shit.
It's currently the ONLY way to truly defend against fingerprint tracking.
Double points if you have each browser running in a different VM with a different OS.
Triple points if you have each browser's VM configured with a different VPN connection.

I'm sure arguing over which video card manufacturer is worse is more important than talking about tracking that puts the NSA to shame

I'm getting a new laptop soon and want to return to Linux. I've used Mint and Ubuntu in the past... But, want to try something new.

I'm not the type who can compile kernels - which is why I usually stick with Mint.

What's the current "user friendly" Distro? Still Mint and Ubunto? What about Gentoo? Red Hat?

Xubuntu, it just werks. If you take the time to learn about how extensions work and find better window decorations for it, Ubuntu GNOME is pretty nice too.

Experiment in this order:
Puppy, Elementary, Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, openSUSE, Manjaro, Arch, Gentoo, You'll find comfy somewhere in there.

Personally, I use a Samsung SyncMaster B2230 wich gave me 5 good years, but now I'm looking for a new main monitor for gaming (and I would use the B2230 as second monitor).

When I look up reviews, they seems like they all have problems; the colors are not good enough, the refresh rate, the bluriness... I'm currently looking up the ASUS VG248QE but the price is a little steep... Something else I should consider in the 150-250$? I don't mind the resfresh rate all that much, but i want something around 24 inchs.

Thank you!

If you have to ask, then the only type that could be worth it is All-in-One types (pic related).

It's mainly for looks over performance though. Significant amount of aircoolers perform on-par with watercoolers, and they're usually a bit louder because they have a motor in the pump.

Really really unsecure. I basically use "cuckmylifeintopiecesthisismylastdivorce" on all my accounts. Looks safe but I bet some nerd has it in his dictionary attack list thing.
