what router do you use /g/?

I've been researching wireless routers and I've concluded all consumer models are shit, and designed to fail in 1-2 years. I think I'm going to try putting together a setup using separate components from Ubiquity, which sells enterprise-level systems, but which are actually pretty reasonably priced for the lower end gear.

On that note, is it a good idea to buy a separate modem, router, firewall, switch, access point or get one of those all-in-one solutions? Space and money not being the issue.

So since there is no home server thread at the moment so let's call it home server general /hsg/, but actually I'm making this thread to vent a little about Plex.

Why is PLEX such an enormous piece of garbage that doesn't allow you decide for yourself what devices can into HEVC. So here is what PLEX thinks:

>i7 4770k
let's torch the Westmere Xeon instead
>i5 2500k
the Xeon it is
>FX8300
fuck the Xeon
>FX6300
let's kill the Xeon
>i7 2760qm
Xeon, obvioiously
>Samsung S4 Mini
Oh wow an S4 Mini, that's tots fine to play HEVC
>Raspberry PI 2 B+
Mighty RPI2 will be alright

Meanwhile, the RPI2 and the S4 mini are dying and can't play the Stream without massive lags, while the high-end desktop and Notebook CPUs do literally nothing and get transcoded content spoonfed.

The only devices out of the 18 Plex is streaming to, it does decide correctly are high(-ish) end smartphones like my S3 where it doesn't transcode and the content plays flawlessly.

And yeah I can force transcode on the devices having trouble, but I can't make it not transcode to all those computers.

Why wouldn't Plex just allow me to decide what needs transcoding? Or you know, let at least the client decide that it doesn't need transcoding?

I wouldn't hate half as much if Plex wasn't running in a VM and the L5640 had hardware HEVC decoding.

How often do you refresh your thermal compound?
85 posts and 18 images submitted.
>>
>>51714340
Never, because thermal paste is nothing that should ever be refreshed.
>>
>>51714340
Why should one do that?
>>
>>51714348
It should be redone if you ever take off the heat sink, but this.

My newly built PC turns on then off, the time it stays on then off is random(from 3 seconds to 35 seconds) i dont know if i screwed up the PSU or motherboard

Tell us what you did.
Also, troubleshooting builds for absolute newbs:
>remove HDD/SSD
>remove any optical drive
>remove fans and everything you dont need
>if you have an on board GPU, remove GPU
>remove any front IO connectors

Your PC should look like this:
>PSU
>Mobo
>CPU
>RAM
>(maybe GPU, if you dont have onboard one)
Then shorten out the 2 pins for the "on" button and see what it does. Post pics and results and Ill help you further.

Also, post specs and pictures.
