Are functional programmers the most entitled idiots on the planet?

They say "muh abstraction"

But what they really mean is "muh refusal to interface with the way actual computer hardware works"

I think most of them read the first couple of pages of SICP and actually walked away thinking that computer science is magic, where you can just say something and expect the compiler to make it so.

It's no wonder all FP code runs like ass. Even Java is faster

if you wanna save some bucks with better performance, you could try ebay or some sort to get used last gen parts for much cheaper

like a Intel i5 3570 for example for a lower price tag and better performance

you just have to make sure to find a 1155 mainboard in good condition which can be used aswell.

any other than that. get an rx480 if you aren't brand loyal and want to future proof

What GPUs are the fastest?

Black PCB?
Red PCB?
Blue PCB?
Green PCB?
Are you aware of any other colors?

I found out that blue PCB GPUs tend to be slower than the other ones. It tended to stay cool and I could overclock nicely, yes. But that was about it.
The rest was pretty lacking and snail-like.

For the anons that have no idea, I will post several images of what I am talking about.

Let's start with this Geforce GTX 630:
It comes with a black PCB. I wonder if it's quieter than the others.

Here we have a brown PCB (I forgot about the color brown, of course it reminds me of shit) on a GTX 560.

I wonder if it is the shit or if it is shitty. There is a difference.

For the AMD folks we also have the infamous blue color.

Look at tiny fan and cooler, overclocking is not really an option with this model. Typical for blue PCBs.

if your only motivation is to dick around with something unfamiliar, then you probably just want something toothless and not too user-unfriendly. that means probably windows 10.
>>
If you're going to install Windows, install it as a bootcamp partition, since you can boot into that with Parallels (but also have the option of booting into the same install natively). Not sure if that's also possible with Linux with some fiddling.
>>
>>55485575
>parallels
>change operating system
That's not how that works. You're just running a virtual machine within OS X.

Even Google realizes how shit and not worth spending time on Android is.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/7/8/12109832/google-apps-iphone-android-motion-stills-gboard-search-hangouts

>Here’s a thing I didn’t really expect to write: I’m finding that I enjoy Google’s apps more on iOS than I do on Android. Or more specifically: I think that there’s more interesting innovation coming out of Google’s iOS app teams than on Android — at least for the moment.

>Back in May, my colleague Ben Popper talked about how Google’s apps on iOS were so good that he saw little reason to switch over to Android, despite the fact that he spends so much time in Google’s waters. Lately, I’ve found myself in basically the same boat. Email? Inbox. Calendar? Google Calendar. Keyboard? Gboard. Maps? Duh. The list goes on and on.

>[Google Keyboard] It’s so good, it makes me wonder why the hell it isn’t on Android. Apparently there are plans to "bring the same functionality to Android," but it sure seems like the iOS side of things is where the innovation is happening right now. Perhaps it's that constraints tend to breed creative solutions, or perhaps it’s just that – even for Google engineers — iOS is simply easier to develop great apps for.

>Let’s take one example: Hangouts, Google’s oft-maligned (and justly so!) chat app. On iOS, it feels coherent and consistent. On Android, the design and placement of the buttons change seemingly every other month. On iOS, you can use extensions to share directly to a person in a chat right inside the pop-up share sheet. Google added the ability for apps to do something like that on Android in October 2015, with a feature called "Direct Share." Hangouts only began supporting it last month.

Its because only Indians develop apps for Android, whereas white, educated Americans are able to program for iOS.
