Trying to generate simple html image thumbnails from a long list of links. Is there a find and replace tool that would make it easier? word? excel even?

just use any stream editor
on unix systems there's sed, with which you can just replace any regular expression with an entered string.
since you're apparently on windows, you'll have to look around for a proprietary alternative to this.

I had one (first generation 5k) that I sold to a family member. My personal preference would be for a rMBP plus a nice 4k monitor. iMacs are basically laptop components on the inside, so unless you're looking for the whole "only 1 cord" thing, it's not really worth it.

I'm sure it's to make people want to buy a subscription to YouTube red, ads have been more and more intrusive being put in the middle of videos, and it's getting on my nerves since I mainly watch YouTube on my phone and haven't been able to find a way to block ads on it.

You're thinking of rm -rf /
Which needs sudo because you're deleting the root partition/folders
rm doesn't need any extra permissions on regular files that your user is allowed to access like your own home directory.
Otherwise shit like your file manager wouldn't be able to delete files.
