It highly depends on what you're going to use your computer for. If you're one of these gamer kiddies, then yeah, this setup will do nicely.

Get a used 970 from someone who upgraded to 10 series.

Get a better case. Silverstone, Corsair, Fractal, etc...

Get cheaper ram. Higher speeds make almost no difference.

Get an ssd

Why is Apache Maven so complicated?

Okay use ant then, o wait ants an even bigger pain in the ass.

Just use it dude
>>
Because Apache is shit.
>>
>>54778910
What is supposedly complicated about it? You set up a repository of libraries, you declare what dependencies your project utilizes in the pom.xml
tadah!

so /g/, do you have a shit brand laptop?

It's an open specification for a low-level graphics library.
Every GPU manufacturer has their own implementation but they're all standards compliant.
If you write GL code that runs on intel integrated graphics, it will work on AMD or Nvidia as well.
>>
>>54778807
Every GPU manufacturer has to implement the OpenGL interface ? That is.. interesting.

The biggest problem I'm having now is trying to understand the responsibilities of something like OpenGL vs the OS Driver vs the GPU itself.

Like one thing I don't understand is which layer is doing the actual math to understand how to project something in 3D space ? I assume there must be some formula to take 3D coordinates and "squash" them into a 2D projection.

Hopefully that makes sense. This probably sounds very amateurish. I'm just now learning about 3D graphics.
>>
>>54778869
I like to think about it like a piece of paper when your writing or drawing. The paper acts as a base.
You can add many layers, techniques, and original elements to it, but at the end of the day the common element all those drawings share is the base of paper.

Eat shit, freetards.

>The developer community may be celebrating today what it perceives as a victory in Oracle v. Google. Google won a verdict that an unauthorized, commercial, competitive, harmful use of software in billions of products is fair use. No copyright expert would have ever predicted such a use would be considered fair. Before celebrating, developers should take a closer look. Not only will creators everywhere suffer from this decision if it remains intact, but the free software movement itself now faces substantial jeopardy.

>Google's narrative boiled down to this: because the Java APIs have been open, any use of them was justified and all licensing restrictions should be disregarded. In other words, if you offer your software on an open and free basis, any use is fair use.

>If that narrative becomes the law of the land, you can kiss GPL (general public license) goodbye.

>No business trying to commercialize software with any element of open software can afford to ignore this verdict. Dual licensing models are very common and have long depended upon a delicate balance between free use and commercial use. Royalties from licensed commercial exploitation fuel continued development and innovation of an open and free option. The balance depends upon adherence to the license restrictions in the open and free option. This jury's verdict suggests that such restrictions are now meaningless, since disregarding them is simply a matter of claiming "fair use."

>It is hard to see how GPL can survive such a result. In fact, it is hard to see how ownership of a copy of any software protected by copyright can survive this result. Software businesses now must accelerate their move to the cloud where everything can be controlled as a service rather than software. Consumers can expect to find decreasing options to own anything for themselves, decreasing options to control their data, decreasing options to protect their privacy.

>Google is an advertising company. It does not depend upon traditional software licensing and is therefore free to disregard the protections that traditional software licensing provides.

>You should have been on Oracle's side in this fight. Free stuff from Google does not mean free in the sense Richard Stallman ever intended it.

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/05/op-ed-oracle-attorney-says-googles-court-victory-might-kill-the-gpl/

This is so fucking stupid, Google made their own implementation of Java.
They're fully within their right to do so.

This article just reeks of oracle damage control.
>>

I don't care so much about the GPL, I just say "You can freely distribute this program and modified versions of it, by doing so you are never tied to legal stuff as having to make your software free like in the GPL."

I want to build a mini cooling system. I work in a lab where there is no AC. I can't bring an AC, it would be seen as fucked up and it's expensive. I'm looking to build a peltier-cooled fan. I already have Intel BXTS13X cooler (pic related). I'd like to use it to cool the hot side of the peltier diviec as well as bring the cool liquid to a water block on the cool side of it (next pic for a schematic of the system).

My fear: The hot side of the peltier unit might get too hot for the cooling liquid. I dont have any technical datas about that liquid, so i can estimate it. I could guess R134a, but still.

what do you guys think?

Someone who owns my phone plan is stalking me and threatening to request text messages sent to them. I'm considering litigious action, but I'm also perusing this over.

Cellular providers can provide only numbers, not actual messages sent. Is this correct? This is why people need warrants to see text messages, for instance.

Word to the wise, don't share phone plans in short term relationships.

What does /g/ think of GNU/linux-libre and those distros specifically supported by the Free Software Foundation and the GNU project, and other "libre" ideas such as libreboot and various work towards open-source hardware, in general, and concerns regarding "blobs" and closed-source firmware?
24 posts and 3 images submitted.

they are memes
>>
On the meme scale from Arch to Ubuntu they're a solid openSUSE
>>
it seems like they tell to users of less extreme purist distros the same thing that those users tell to users of closed-source software, i.e. that the latter are not secure because they use closed-source software.

Is there a double standard here?
